All of us - including me - thought that'd be the case when they played a West Indies side, which in turn easily beat Pakistan themselves.
He was speaking about the pool stages...
I was referring to the bold bit. It would a disaster for rain to ruin a QF or SF

Our biggest concern is De Kock. He's not looking good. If we drop him then AB has to keep. It might be too much for him to handle whilst being captain and with much of the batting resting on his shoulders.
Russouw has done well in the middle/end of the innings and should stay so someone has to be dropped. Philander vs Abbott is a tough call. I guess since Philander was picked as part of the first 11, he should resume his place in the team by principle. Same for JP Duminy.
Behardien hasn't had a chance to bat yet in the three matches he's played. Tough call. In my opinion, either drop Behardien or De Kock and let Philander come in for Abbott whilst JP Duminy resumes his spot in the middle order. Perhaps give De Kock one last game. If he fails, drop him for the rest of the tournament and stick with Behardien.

QDK should get one more chance, if he fails he is out, its the world cup, he needs to perform now or be dropped.

I personally want de Kock to stay in the team just for the glovework. The toll it will take on AB having to be our best batsman, keeper and leader would be a burden to great IMO.
His on the field tactics may suffer and in addition, if we get fined one more game for a slow over rate, AB is going to miss a game. Now with him keeping, he isn't going to be able to have chats with bowlers during balls and get field placing 100%.... which will have a negative impact in big games.

Agreed. And I think it'll be wise to rest AB vs. UAE, or at least make Hashim captain and let AB bat like 7, just to take some mental pressure off of him.
Yep, also - making Amla capt for a match and AB still playing will mean that AB will still get banned if we have a slow over rate. He is the tour capt.
Sri Lanka, quite cleverly, used this tactic in a previous ICC tournament and they implemented this rule to stop such behaviour from occurring again. ( basically, at coin toss, the capt. didn't go but he was still the ' unofficial capt.')

Yeah, if AB plays, he has to be captain. That is the rule for the tournament. He can't transfer the role to someone else whilst still playing.

Yeah, we need QDK to find form and find it fast!
His primary function is to keep wicket and he's been doing a pretty damn good job of it!!
AB has been magnificent in the field! Easily our best fielder to date having taken half a dozen catches and effected 3 run outs! I'd hate to see him back behind the stumps!
Look, the last 2 games have maybe, once again created a false sense of what this current lineup/team is capable of but 2 consecutive 400+ totals is not something to be frowned upon, regardless of the quality of the opposition.
I would be inclined to open with Faf and Amla and let QDK come in at 3. Maybe he just doesn't have the nerves for opening in a WC match. I would try that against UAE and Pakistan. Nothing to lose.
The last 2 games Abbott has been impressive too. Outcast sowed the seeds of doubt re Morkel and on the form shown against the WI and Ireland one would be hard pressed not to pick Abbott over Morkel.
This long batting lineup has worked nicely for us too but against a stronger side, bowling first, what sort of containing job would our current battery of bowlers do??
Again, it's a question of finding the right balance! Would be SOOO easy if we had a world class all rounder in the mix, but sadly we don't!
Purely for Pakistan and UAE and assuming a fully fit squad I would pick the following team:
1.) Faf
2.) Amla
3.) QDK
4.) AB
5.) Miller
6.) RR
7.) JP
8.) Philander
9.) Steyn
10.) Abbott
11.) Tahir

Bit confused by the Protea's decisions today. I would have dropped QDK down the order and allowed Rilee to open. Take some pressure off QDK and allow him to come in when the ball is older.
Then only to bowl Behardien for 2 overs is just stupid. We had the victory sealed, give the guy a chance to bowl a proper spell. He needs it.
