It's not a major upgrade from the G2... I would say keep the G2 if you already have it and you're unsure if it's worth the extra cash.

The casing is way better. Lock button is more clicky - prefer the G2 in that case. Screen is nice but at this level, the difference will barely be noticeable

Yeah, I will be coming from a Samsung S3 (iPhone 4 before that) so I think it will be a major/worthy upgrade for me. I'm not impressed with the S5 and I'm over TouchWizz and the over saturated (IMO :p) AMOLED display Samsung offers. I was hoping that Apple would have announced the iPhone 6 by now so I could compare and decide if I should go back to Apple and iOS but I don't think I can wait till September for them to announce and then however many more months for the iPhone 6 to come out to SA.

The 5.5" display, the super thin bezels and the relatively simple and untouched Android experience sold me for the G3.

I definitely prefer it to the S5 and it's cheaper... From an s
S3, it will be a major upgrade :)

I was slightly in 2 minds about getting this. But I've just ordered. Supposed to get it on Friday, but I'm not here (argh!) then, so Monday it is.

I've read a million reviews and some complain about lag, some don't. Some say the screen is not bright enough, some say it is. Stuff it. I'm going to try something else besides the regular brands and make up my own mind. Luckily I'm heavily into the custom roms scene, so I'm sure it won't be long until some awesome roms are available that delivers the best the device can offer. Whoop! Into the unknown we go!

I've got mine on pre-order with Vodacom. Was told that I will get it Next week at the earliest... :(

Anyone got Vodacom costing? MTn is R399/month

I think the lag they're talking about may just be in the launcher. I'm running the G3 ROM on my G2 and when you open the app drawer and swipe to the next/previous screen there is sometimes some frame drops with the animation, it's only really noticeable when you swipe slowly.

I haven't had time to play with a G3 yet, so I can't be certain but I'm just noticing this with the launcher.

My upgrade date is on the 15th but the Vodacom rep told me I can probably upgrade on the 1st of Aug. I read an article on htxt that each carrier is getting a value-add bonus type thing with G3's on contract (Vodacom gets wireless charger, MTN gets quickcircle case), so be sure to ask them about that too!!

Gonna try on Friday and see if they have stock in Cape Town yet. I'm also coming from a Samsung S3, so the G3 is gonna be a sweet upgrade for me.

Is it fairly common to upgrade on the first day of the month in which your upgrade date is?

Does anyone know if a Vodashop in the Edenvale area has stock - or when they will have stock? Keen to get my hands on one of these.

Picked up mine from Vodacom Gateway today got the wireless charging stand with it, doesn't work to well. But the phone
