Obertan starts for Reserves

United fans can finally get a glimpse of summer signing Gabriel Obertan in action tonight, as he lines up for the Reserves in a Manchester Senior Cup tie against Oldham Athletic.

The French winger has been sidelined with spine trouble since his move from Bordeaux, but will start for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side at Hyde United's Ewen Fields as he aims to kickstart his Reds career.

Brazilian full-back Rafael also returns from injury, having sufficiently recovered from shoulder trouble, and he is joined by brother Fabio, Scott Wootton and Oliver Gill in defence. Ben Amos will keep goal.

Matty James, Sam Hewson, Oliver Norwood and Robbie Brady make up the remainder of the midfield with Obertan, while Febian Brandy will lead the line as a lone striker.

Triallist goalkeeper Daniel Lloyd-Weston will be on the substitutes' bench, alongside William Keane, Magnus Eikrem and Joshua King.

The match kicks-off at 19:00 BST, with MUTV's live and exclusive coverage beginning at 18:30 BST.

FFS, why can't we ever just get a player with nothing more wrong than a paper cut..

Saha with all his problems, Hargreaves - knee, Van Nistelrooy - knee, Obertan - spine!, Rio - back, Nani - brain..

Is he left or right sided? And speaking of wingers, where on Earth is Tosic nowadays?
Predominantly left sided, but its said that he can play on either wings or in the Center....

Tosic plays in the reserves, apparently he hasn't yet shown any glimpse of making the first side as yet...:o

REALLY???? comparing him to Nani, he's got more skill and potential than Nani! He's quick, ability to finish, good ball sense but I guess he's not physically strong tho... that's what SAF wanted him to do this past Summer, bulk up for the physical english game...

He's no pixie. He had a very physical confrontation with Booth when Serbia played here. Granted Booth isn't the best of defenders, but he is strong and Tosic handled him quite well. Still don't see what Fergie is waiting for.

maybe for Nani to grow a brain? So SAF can tell him he's benched until further notice?

Caught a glimpse of Obertan last night (watched the reserves game- first half). Man alive is he fast!!!!!
Nice and natural on the ball (got some really wicked skills - feet is very quick)
Nice passing ability (Gave a few excellent high/low through balls and did a Ronaldinho - looked one way, ran another and passed the other way)
Took about 15min to get into things but when the confidence came, he looked quite a player..look forward to the second half tonight (PVR FTW!:D)

Seems he's willing to have a go, and can pull off a lovely pass.. He loks very relaxed, almost as of he's at a Sunday friendly.

Maybe Fergie was a bit hasty with the first team No 7 shirt?
For a second, I thought so too but then the memory of Owen's derby goal rectified that...;)

Lol. No one has forgotten that one, believe me.. I just don't like the fact that we have a No 7 that doesn't play regularly.

Yeah know what you mean, former number 7's were a fixture in our side. Maybe this number seven will be make his name in parts - The Liverpool game is coming soon you know..hehe

I think owen's reception is going to be a lot worst than adebayor got at the emirates

....or that your current No.7 was a Liverpool player for most of his career. It must hurt.

That's a certainty. Personally I'd prefer if the Kop ignored the bugger and used all their energy to support our own. I suppose it's difficult not to have a pop at the Judas.

and for all of that career he didn't win the EPL...gonna hurt you guys when he wins it with us...(oh! and also when he kisses our badge...hehe)
