Official Samsung Galaxy Note (N7000) Thread

On a bit of a side note - does anyone know if your Paypal purchases function the same as normal credit card purchases from local shops?

In other words, do you still get 55 days to settle the account without interest?

I'm considering going the Expansys route (against my better judgement) and will most likely use Paypal.

Thoughts?

I have never purchased anything local with PayPal. I usually only use that service when purchasing in other currencies.... Something I'd also like to know...

Only if you are using your credit card to purchase via paypal, ie if its not your debit card the money is being taken from.

But why use paypal over your normal credit card anyway, its only going to cost you more with the exchange rate.

Just wanted to let you guys know that if you take a MTN Anytime R100 contract, you can get the SGS2 for R3600, HTC One X for R4200 and SGS Note for R4800 approx. Not ideal for a non contract solution, but nevertheless good prices if you have to buy airtime some time anyway.

So I was out at dinner when my mate whips out a S3. I must say I am impressed... its very snappy and the camera is brilliant. He has Omega Rom installed and what interested me the most was the app that comes with that rom called Omega Kitchen where you can download all modified apk for your phone. For example a modified camera apk you would open app click on camera and download the modification that you desire.

That is way awesome. I have been looking but can't seem to find anything like that for the note on any rom?

Have you guys seen anything like this?

Also is there such a thing as a class 11 microsd card?

Sounds a lot like CheckROM and the KitchenPro app. Find it on XDA, but last I checked it was still on Gingerbread.

yip it looks like they stopped developing that rom due to not having a galaxy note any more...

gonna try out rocketrom...

i dont think i like these touchwiz roms...

edit: sweet paranoidandroid v0.3 is out... going back to awesomeness...

If your already rooted you can just strait up to a custom rom, I would however pay attention to all the HardBrick warnings attached to those, the hardbrick is unfortuantely caused directly at the source so no matter if its a custom or original rom you can just as easily be screwed.

Do your research, I completely missed the warning and luckily I grabbed a stock rom, so no custom stuff getting in the way forcing me to do things like factory reset or data wipes which can brick the device.
Just read through a long article about how bad it is and how its impossible to fix without returning it to the manufacturer for a hardware brickblock reset, at which point they could very easily tell you to sod off and void your warranty. Rooting, custom and unofficial roms are all grounds for voiding warranty and samsung records custom rom flashes on the hardware level.

As far as i know odin with an official rom then rooting is the safest route from a warranty point, the hardware counter reads 0 and once bricked they cant boot the device to see any further info.
Brciked my previous phone by flashing an incorrect ROM, but there was no hardware tracker to tell voda I screwed up. They just flashed it and sent it back to me.

Ok, this sounds good and easy. Would mobile odin work with a stock ics rom off sammobile, as this would give you the option to preroot and inject cwm and supersu....? I would imagine this too is a safe route to go....?

I used odin with the UK rom off sammobile, but did not preroot. The guide on xda with the odin and root guide did not use pre-rooting, from what I understood the official ones are not compatible with pre-rooting, could be wrong.

Ok then....I don't have an issue with odin for pc.... I just did the brickbug test, and it said I passed the test. So does this mean I can flash a stock ics rom without worrying about bricking...? I'm not really interested in wiping data as I don't enjoy the setting up process and reloading all the apps and stuff.... And I'm not really interested in custom roms, I only want a ics rom..... That's all....

What are my options? Am I free to flash with odin a stock ics rom without the worry...?

Well, asking for all note users, when is ics being launched for all users of the note, on all networks. I was thinking of looking on sammobile to see how long it took for the s2 to get ics here for us, and that's like 4 months after the first firmwares. Which means we still have some time to go.....

Odin + stock = 100%

Premature with your testing, the brickbug is in ICS, not GB. Your potential problems only start after ur upgrade.

I did the upgrade without even knowing the risks, my phones working fine, but I was personally pretty close to a factory reset after some incorrect adjustments to my build.prop file. Luckily I had finished all my setting up so I went for a reflash instead which fixed the file.

asking on behalf of a friend

when is ics coming to the galaxy note for users on the mtn network?

No official work on any official ICS updates for any network, so far everyone is using odin and one or other EU rom's.
