Official Samsung Galaxy Note (N7000) Thread

That will be the best option yes, take it to a service center... If they brick your phone, they will repair it... Rather have them do it, rather than you do it yourself and do something wrong, damage the phone and possibly cause issues with your warranty...
 
Looking at those specs, it's not mind blowingly better than the Note 1. Bigger screen, faster CPU and extra RAM aren't really grounds for me to splash out to get one... Sure, it would be nice, but the Note 1 can do everything just as good as the Note 2....

I'm not particularly impressed with the Note 2 - lower screen resolution (and much lower ppi) and larger dimensions are a turn off for me. On the up side we'll get several of the new features with the Jellybean update (on the downside that will probably only be early next year). Quad core and more RAM sound great but I haven't encountered an app or situation that has caused me to run out of either yet.

I was really hoping for a retina display though or that new semi-flexible display technology they were supposed to introduce, even AMOLED+ but despite Samsung claiming the display is the 'best ever', it's actually much worse than the original (though 5.5 inches at least from a usability perspective is nice). I do wish they hadn't made it wider and taller though, I feel like they could have shrunk the device slightly (and kept the screen size) if they dropped the physical buttons and had the screen reach the ends of the device on the left and right.

But then maybe the incremental changes are a good thing - current owners don't feel like they've lost out and new owners can still be proud of having an 'improved device'. I remember the same situation when I had the S1 and saw the S2 (just not enough to convince me to take out another contract), but if I'd stayed with the S range I would have been quite happy with the S3 which came out when my original contract was due for an upgrade.

I am confused by your definition of much in regards to the lower ppi of only 18 ppi less, they also made it narrower and higher, not thicker and higher.
If your going to complain about it at least complain properly.

Apologies, I must have misread the specs, I see they did make it 2.5mm narrower, but the problem with the current Note is that it's too tall (it sticks out of most pockets), so taller is not better. To me an upgraded device should never have a lower resolution or ppi than the original device - so 18ppi does make a difference when a company officially claims the screen quality is better (I think they said it 5 times over in their presentation last night).

I see you will upgrade to the new device anyway because you get a new phone every year - good for you, for the rest of us an 'upgraded' device needs to be significantly better to spend upwards of R7000 or an additional R400/month on a device 1 year after we bought it. Personally the price vs value isn't there for a new contract for me (it's obviously a great choice if you want to get your first Note), but you may see it otherwise. I don't particularly care for your flippant tone though, you're welcome to disagree with me or correct my errors but not to insult me.

I've got a network locked Note but no idea what network it is locked on and no idea which country it came from. So does anyone know how to find out which network it's locked onto so I can go about unlocking it?

PM me the IMEI number and I'll do a check...
Otherwise see on the device, locked devices usually have some carrier apps, and/or wallpapers....
Finally check under settings > about device.. And see the build numbers a quick Google of that should give you an indication...

Most stable one is only on preview 5 and Sammy starts rolling out the official releases next month so it may just be better to wait and get an official EURO rom when it comes out.

You may want to have a read here and see why even though their is a marginally lower PPI the Note2's screen is in fact still a substantial upgrade from the Note1
