Defaults to Phablet I think, but that was too long ago for me to remember, I wanted it on hybrid anyway, you can check by swiping right and tapping layout, it will tell you which mode you are in, you can then also reduce the nav bar to 0% to get rid of the software nav buttons, I would also suggest adjusting the lock screen to around 220dpi, otherwise the widgets get a bit clunky especially if you use DashClock

thanks, I have paid for both Navigon and Sygic and would love to be able to use one of them.

I so seldom use the GPS for actual navigation, I drive a bike so I can't hear the damn thing to begin with and my mothers fromt eh generation that will NOT listen to a computer tell her how to drive, will will prefer taking the extremely longer way and get lost than do anything efficient.
 
Ok, gave up on stock 4.1.2, and went back to 4.0.4. I used Mobile Odin to flash the ROM, and had great fun as the n7000 went into some kind of loop, stuck on the Samsung logo. I couldn't get Kies, desktop Odin or Heimdall to do anything about it. Eventually on an obscure thread, I found someone mentioned clearing /data from stock recovery worked and that did it for me too.

Much better battery usage so far. Flatlining when not in use, even with wireless on all the time.

I backed up everything I could think of, but forgot my contacts. Fortunately, I had a 6 month old vcf so it wasn't a complete train smash. I do miss some of the features of stock 4.1.2, so may play around with some Samsung based ROMs while the system is relatively clean.
 
Were your contacts not backed up to the Google server with your Google account?

I am actually running CarbonROM AOSP 4.2.2 at the moment and not missing anything Samsung related yet. The phone is faster and smoother. And stable.

Can barely remember what useful things samsung had, I froze them all.

S-memo, I prefer it to papyrus;
S-planner, much better than google's default calendar app.
These are two I use regularly. There is a lot of rubbish though.

I thought I had set it up to backup to Google. Will check on why it didn't as my Nexus 7 picked them up.

Papyrus is actually nicer for me, found s-memo to be like a gazillion times slower and as I am rooted I can change my spen function from memo to papyrus.
S-Planner was cluttered, annoying and never synced with my google calendar so useless would be a compliment.

Business Calendar is a very solid calendar app. Very fast as well. Lots of useful updates made to the app too.

Tried it before, a few times. I find it too cluttered and ugly, just feels unpleasant to work with, would rather use that silly samsung one, even though it does not work properly at least its nicer to work with.

As a matter of interest, what doesn't work for you with s-planner. Syncs fine for me with the Google calendar after I figured out where it was getting stuck (I think I mentioned it in this thread).

Yes, but by that point in time I had already moved over to GCalendar and I prefer it, never liked s-planner, none of its layouts looked nice and it offered nothing that google didn't except for the fact that it did not actually sync.

All my appointments were always assigned to my google calendar, but weather I added them on the phone or on the pc they would never sync across, realistically it should not be my responsibility to figure out why a google calendar on a google operating system does not sync with a google calendar, in no way should the samsung calendar ever be the default in any case. Is there like even a samusng website you can go to to see you calendar.

Only thing I miss from my samsung was the swipe to call, and seeing as I make like 20min of calls for an entire month I can really work around that feature.

Think about the effort that went into making the news ES file manager work as you wanted it! ;)
 
Just an update on my 4.1.2 to 4.0.4 downgrade: yesterday I worked in my Club's bar for the day. I had wireless on, 3g on all the time (no wireless connection though); used the calculator regularly; checked and responded to emails regularly; used Google a couple of times; checked info on CricketBuzz to clear up some issues with the patrons; sent quite a few SMSes; and made a few calls (in other words normal activity). This morning, the battery level is at 62%, with 4.1.2, it would have run down by lunch time yesterday.

4.1 Just hated your phone, plugged my phone in last night after 3.5 days on battery.

Ya but your active and mine may be 2 different thing, I make and receive about 40 minutes of calls a month and wifi not a big battery hog, its 3G and H+ that are, those I have tasker turn off when on wifi

I may be forced to go back to stock ics or stock jb. Going to monitor battery use over next few days to check which other hogs I have on system.

What would be the best way to go back to stock. Right now I have cm 10.1 kernel.
I was thinking flash with a philz kernel and then download one of stock roms - german or SA now that it is out.

Alternatively how would I go back to kies released firmwares?
