Official Samsung Galaxy Note (N7000) Thread

Ok, I'm officially on jelly bean :D. So far I'm loving it. Still a bit of lag but that's probably go launchers fault.

Been trying out Google now, but it looks like it's going to be a massive battery drain.

Not at all, google now not even listed in battery stats, that lists everything that uses above 2%

Is that not because it's classified as a system app and it's battery usage is sitting under android os or system?

Its possible, not sure the exact service its using. I do also have better battery stats, google maps is i the list even though I never use it, but its used 4.5% battery since boot and that was 3 days ago.

There is nothing in bbs to indicate its abusive, quite the opposite really, avg usage for my device is 3.8% per hour, never got it bellow 7 on ICS, so even if now has an impact the effects of JB on a whole more than offset anything it may be doing.

BBS is only $2, very useful for spotting poorly coded apps, halped me track down a battery drain cause by some dodgy code in ICS that would crop up 2-3 times a month and prevent it from going into deep idle.
 
Are any of you aware of the Exynos security flaw in the Note (and some other Samsung devices - Note 2, S3) ? Chainfire over at XDA Forums has a tool for it.

It seems the part of the Kernel used for the front facing camera allows for unrestricted access to the device. Thus allowing you to root it with a simple APK package. But the downfall of the flaw is that you are wide open to any intrusions by infected APK's (malicious code)... The link supplied can close this "flaw" but essentially it is the same as "rooting" your device which will void your warranty. At present there is no official word from Samsung on the matter, nor an official fix.

No true, Samsung released a statement on this already... it has held back the 4.1.2 updates for the Note and SII until Q1 2013.
 
Ok.. so a statement has been made... but there is no official fix as yet .. true ? Root the device & run non stock kernels ... lol

My point is that this flaw has existed for a hell of a long time... over a year already?? Note has been out for ages... but I am not sure if it is android version specific ? Honeycomb ? ICS? or JB?

Samsung announced a new 'premium suite' with the jelly bean upgrade for the original note on its website so not too far away now.

Not all true, the announced recently that owing to a security bug the S3 and Note JB updates will be pushed from Q1 to Q2 of 2013, add like 6m for vodacon and emptyn if you actually want it za official via kies.

As a stepping stone till then the S3 is getting the premium suite in an OTA update for ICS soon.

True, our SP's are seriously slow in getting updates out. I'm just going to flash the first official ron that's released, regardless if which country its released in.

It's always Germany, running the leaked unofficial official 4.1.1 now and it's pretty good, have not run into any problems and from the feature list of JB the only thing I know of that's missing is the multi screen which is included in the official official 4.1.2
 
Anyone want to swap their Note 2 for an S3? ;) PM me.

Ps. Serious post I know a few people that made a huge mistake (literally) getting the note 2 because it's just too big for them to use comfortably.

Also running the leaked official 4.1 - you can flash the multi-screen feature if you want it from xda. They even patched it to allow all apps in multi windows and not just the ones Samsung limits it to.

To be honest, it sounds like a brilliant feature, but it has very limited real world use.
 
I have a more tecnical question:

I have some clients that need to connect their Samsung devices to their network wirelessly. We need to configure proxy settings as well on these devices. It looks like we may have to download a different wireless manager to be able to configure proxies. Any advice?

You can use the default one to do that, just tick the advanced options box when you are joining a network and you can set proxy settings in there. If you didnt when you first joined then just choose to forget network and join it again.

May I ask, why do you need to configure proxy settings? What does it mean, and what are the benefits? I just want to learn a little... :)
