Official Springbok Tri-Nations Thread

And would you be willing to accept the same excuses if South Africa were about to play and said they are having to use new players?
Absolutely!! I watched and thoroughly enjoyed watching last years Tri-nations when we sent our "B" team over...

Lets start by naming people we think performed good. and Discuss it. Then we can move to people we feel played really bad :D

I posted my list of good players, feel free to add or remove a few or all if neede :D

Um, thanks for the link, I think... it does not really say too much about ALL these players that have left.
Doesn't google work in Pietermariztburg? Anthony Tuitavake, Jerry Collins, Nick Evans, Doug Howlett, Luke McAlister, Rico Gear, Byron Kelleher, Chris Jack, Carl Hayman, Tuitupou, Aaron Mauger

Rodney So'oialo, Andrew Hore and Tony Woodcock were awesome.

I think that was more of a game of bull-rush than rugby.
Blacks seemed to do nothing with the backs nor were the guys even in place to do something had they been looking to move it that way.
Not high class rugby from NZ imo

That AB teams beatable.
Better luck next week guys

well that pathetic display put a downer on the morning (and R200 out my pocket) ...... still too grumbly to say much further ......

The fact is we domonated teh first half and the only difference was Carters kicking. Second half the AB's got the better of us.

Facts that came out of the game is that Jacobs and Jantjies played well and justified selection. It was infact some of the old hands like Butch and Matfield who were well below standard. January had a good defensive game but his passing was poor. Jean was awesome. He broke the NZ backline at will. Bakkies also could have been man of the match. His workrate and physical presence were top class.I think Bob Skinstad summed up the game perfectly. I also believe we lost the game rather than NZ winning. Earlier this week I said that Steyn needed to be on the wing if it rained, we missed his boot. One of the commentators said Percy into fullback and Janties onto the wing, would also work for me.

PDV worried me with some substitutions. Watson was not the impact player you need chasing a game with 20 mins to go. Did not make sense.

I reckon it is too early in the game to issue yellow cards in the ref's opinion. They do this often in gams where they know the tension will be high. I think he used his discretion. I don't agree with the decision, however I understand why he may have let it go. I just hope that he is consistent...

How ironic that a Bulls player got sent off inside of one minute in the game against the Sharks now! At least our local referees understand the rules! :)

It was a dubious call according to Joel, the sending off was... Derrick was adjudged to have put his boot into a player at the 1st ruck of the game (around the 13 sec mark). Watched the reply, it's not a good call at all IMO... I'm totally opposed to sending players off for 10 mins. Yellow card them yes but don't send them off!!! Fine them a percentage of their match fee rather or suspend them for the next game if they get 2 yellows in a single game.

So many big games have been won and lost with a man in the sin bin....and then you get such marginal calls from the ref and touch judges resulting in yellow cards...

I totally disagree! Look at what you are suggesting does in soccer - bugger all. That is like giving each player a free pass to commit at least one offence in every game. If you commit the crime you do the time!

At last! Something we can agree on :)

Soccer players don't lose match fees for every yellow card do they?

I don't think influencing the out come of a contest on the basis of handicapping a side by binning it's guilty player is progressive. The paying public hasn't come to watch 13 vs 15. Teams should win matches on an evenly contested playing field. When you get over zealous refs/touch judges making sometimes subjective calls that can influence the outcome of a match it makes a mockery of the contest.

What other major sports penalize players with a live suspension for foul play?

I say hit them where they'll feel it most, in the pocket!!!! And amateur rugby players face suspension if found guilty of foul play...

You say yellow carding in soccer hasn't worked? Has it worked in rugby??!!!

;) I like the discipline in rugby... I'd hate to see refs being argued with like soccer players do!

I would like the Refs in rugby to have the same attitude as the refs in soccer. That would be super.

If the refs in football had the same attitude as the refs in rugby (on the other hand) the arguing with the ref would be even greater.

Well seeing as though it was already mentioned, soccer has live suspensions. But they allow you to have one free indiscretion before sending you off for the second one. Why have this? Why not just be disciplined in the first place.
