I’m going to support the Sunwolves one more week, which will be against my home and pride. But damn, they are bad. Yes, it is their Super Rugby debut year so there is a margin to be exposed to trial and error as with the Jaguares, but the discipline and ball greed are atrocious. It looks like Pisi stopped being playing at his true potential when he signed the Bristol contract, the Aussies and Kiwis in the team are playing their own game. What was it with Pisi leading the team today with Horie being the captain??? Without the Top League supporting the JRFU this team will be nowhere in 2017. Mark Hammett has his hands tied. They need Jamie Joseph to align the Union with the Industrial league, same issue Eddie Jones had.

Then the Bulls and Cheetahs… somehow the better team couldn’t win today.

The Super Rugby 2016 season is now more or less a quarter into the competition. I can only to hope to see the SA teams change the momentum. I also think that the Brumbies might slip a bit.

My two teams to take the cup, Chiefs (my favourites) and Crusaders. Hoping to see the Lions, Sharks and Stormers in the top 8 this year. But yah, the Stormers won the Brumbies and only have the Tahs to play which will be a challenge, from the overseas teams, though the Force is slowly picking up their game.

Crusaders want neutral referees

‘The problem that you have is when you get a referee from the city you’re playing in, there’s a massive crowd influence that comes in,’ Hewett told Newstalk ZB. ‘It’s something that is frustrating from a coaching point of view and can have a massive influence on the game.’

Hewett added that neutral referees would prevent post-match talk of referee bias.

I think if you go purely on results, then no. The Jaguares however have shown glimpses, having run several teams close. Give them another season or two and I think they'll become super competitive, especially at home. Not sure the same can be said of the Sunwolves though.
 
Chiefs definitely sent out a statement with that performance on Saturday.
Was a bit disappointed with the way the Tahs played.
 
One could easily cull 6 teams from this competition and return it to its former glory in the form of a round robin Super 12.

The derby agenda has made this competition a snoozefest.

In my opinion, yes and no.

The Jagaures was introduced with a world-class team, with high expectations, but they have to experience Super Rugby to read into the competition. Give them a year or two and they will be top contenders. This Super Rugby competition gave them an opportunity to build on depth. The Pumas has to go on tour as well soon, so they will be limited on 1st choices in that window, however they had good players with good results in the Americas Rugby Championship so there is that.

The Sunwovles… they have a good coach, what they lack is players and money. The Top League is not supporting the JRFU. Jamie Joseph, the new Japan coach, made a statement earlier this year saying that the Sunwolves budget is only big enough to carry three Top League Japanese star players. Players like Tusi Pisu, Yamada, Horie, etc. is paid by the Top League and loaned to the JRFU, others like Lolohea is there on the limited budget while greater opportunities are only a phone call away. All-in-all, there team has a huge issue with their 8-pack, it is too light and completely inconsistent in the set pieces. Though they had limited training, they need to get it right by 8 matches. The backline is good, though it is starved to death by their own team. Blah blah blah… Without the Top League giving all their support to this competition by next year they will have built little depth by 2020.

All I know is, the Australians wanted to chuck the Rebels…

Then again, this 2016 competition is still an embryo, an 1/4 into play so much can change.

Kolbe boost for Stormers

Cheslin Kolbe will be in the No 15 jersey for the Stormers when they take on the Sunwolves in an historic Super Rugby match at Newlands on Friday night.

The hot-stepping fullback has been cleared to play in the match after he was “knocked out cold” in the match against the Jaguares in Buenos Aires two weekends ago.

It’s great news for the Stormers, as his absence would have left a massive hole at fullback for the Cape franchise after wing Dillyn Leyds was been ruled out for the season.

This is good news, but...

Riaan will need to play in either 10/11/14, and Pisi may be leaving sooner than expected to kit up with Bristol.

Now they only need Amanaki :whistle:

Goromaru will be right at home with this team.
