Official Thread: Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)

Which keyboard are you guys using for your galaxies? The MIUI one (which seems really similar to stock) is terrible. I've been trying out ThumbKeypad which feels miles better but was wondering if there isn't something you guys know of which suits this 4 incher better.

I use a WP7 keyboard, found it on some blog long ago so cant really provide a link sorry.

But in my opinion, the stock gingerbread keyboard is all round the best. Iv tried galnets, ive tried the stock samsung, iv tried swiftkey, and a few others. They all just seem too bloated and complicated. Stock gingerbread keyboards still the best imo.
 
Android 4?

Can Android 4 be installed on the i9000? I assume if it can it would be very laggy at times and unresponsive? Or am I wrong?

It would be even more amazing if you had android 4 to install. Heck google would prolly want to buy it from you to save them doing the dev work on it.
 
Will the device support ICS? Most definitely as the Nexus S is getting ICS. Will Samsung update it? I highly doubt that. They want us to buy the galaxy s 2/note/ nexus prime.
 
ICS almost ported to the SGS:

It's in Alpha 7 at the moment.

calls, sms, 3g (with a ugly patch but it works.)
Touch
Wifi
SDCards (internal and external)
Market
Contacts sync
Calendar sync
camera
panorama mode
face unlock
Gps

What does not work:
Bluetooth
Camera (video recording)

Seems it's almost ready for everyday usage!

Just one thing - the reason I haven't installed it yet is because you can't charge your phone while it's on :confused:

For the guys who've tried both muiu and cynagonmod (can't remember how to spell either) which is better.

I'm giving cynagon 7.1 a go now and so far its great but the games are jittery.

Homerun battle 3d is what I play the most tbh and im struggling matchup because of it

Anybody know when we will get a pure ice cream sandwich rom out of beta?

I don't think we will get the official rom from samsung.

Well I've just installed it and so far so good, games are running as smooth as silk. Will see how its after a few days

I don't know, but I downloaded the alpha and wanted to flash it this weekend, but I didn't have a JVT rom, and my international is depleted now. Have to wait till the first to do it, hopefully it would be in beta then.
 
I flashed the ICS beta yesterday. It was quite a process, and it took me a while (6 hours or so, including the wait for downloads) to get it right. The guide in the thread on xda didn't work for me, but I found alot of useful info on the thread (pages 347-351).

Here's a quick guide for those wanting to try, perhaps it will save you some time.

Basically what I did (coming from miui):
Flash stock jvt with Odin3 v1.30
Flash latest speedmod kernel
WIPE
Flash CM7.1
Phone enters bootloop
Flash CM7.1 (Again)
flash cm radio jvt
WIPE
flash ICS kernel
Flash ICS rom (beta1)
reboot (Phone will most probably not boot correctly)
Flash ICS rom (again)
Flash ICS kernel(again)

And now its working...very well.

Things that I did wrong:
First I tried flashing direct from MIUI (JVK base), the rom flashed but would not boot.
Then I flashed CM7.1, and then ICS (once again I the rom instalation would execute, but the rom would not boot)
Then I reverted to stock JVT with CF Root kernel and tried ICS direct from JVT, but kept getting errors in CWM.
Then I tried Stock JVT with Speedmod kernel and got the same error.
Then I followed the process laid out above.

Anyone else tried?
I still can't find a toggle to switch data on/off from the home screen. Other than that I preffer ICS to miui.
