Official Thread: Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)

I'm on Team Hacksung's beta and it's not too bad, but I'll admit there is still a lot of work to be done.

It's too bad that we won't get an official update. Without that we will never have a truly stable ROM imo.

Samsung To "Review" Possibility Of Galaxy S, Tab Ice Cream Sandwich Upgrades... http://t.co/jC9H2c99

It's funny how heated and derailed the arguments in the comments become. I'm one of the poor saps who still has almost two years left on my contract yet even I'm willing to admit that it really is a bit unreasonable to expect Samsung to continue supporting the Galaxy s with its dated hardware, because at the end of the day Samsung is running a business with the intent of making money. I was well aware that I shouldn't expect much in the way of official software support when I bought the device, and to be honest I'm still satisfied with my purchase. It really is an amazing phone and I can't wait to upgrade to the S2/3 when my contract reaches its halfway mark. :) Additionally, like one of the comments said, ICS doesn't really have a make or break feature that I really want that badly. :o

Part of running a business with intent to make money is to keep existing customers happy and loyal. It would be a deciding factor for me in terms of what phone I would go for next. But like you I am also not too bothered to be honest.

I am now running Onecosmic's ICS ROM RC2.11

Definitely loving my phone as much as the day I got it. Very little doesn't work. Obviously FB doesn't sync yet but that is a known problem and then I have an issue where one cannot connect to PC via USB and then the two or three options don't work in the photo editing built-in app but otherwise great.

Sure there are few things different or not the same as in Gingerbread but overall I prefer this over any other ROM I have played with even my owned cooked ones. ICS definitely changes the game in terms of phone software in my opinion for Android based phones.

It's very nice, but it's still not as fast as most of the custom GB ROMs (even with the HW acceleration sort-of enabled). I guess only time will tell to see if that's going to change or not.

Does any one know where I can get my micro-usb connector fixed? I can charge but can't transfer data. Would like to play more with roms on this phone.

Running RC1 with Fugu kernel and my phone connects via USB just fine. Haven't bothered upgrading as it seems the newer revisions have a few more serious bugs than they actually fix.

RC3.11 is pretty stable... RC3 was horrible, but after the quick update everything is incredibly smooth and stable. I can highly recommend it!

Replacement Screen

Hi Guys

I got a spare touch screen + display with opening tools when I dropped i9000, if anyone is interested PM me R1000 inc shipping via fastway or SAPO?

I really need a new battery! When I use my phone while its charging, the battery level goes down! I end up switching it off and charging it

Hi guys

Does anybody know what the stock gingerbread modem for Vodacom SA is?

Better still, what is the best modem to use for South Africa?

I'm running DarkyRom 10.4.2 which is Android 2.3.6 with the JVT modem that comes with it, but getting GPS lock takes forever...

Can one flash a 2.3.3 modem on 2.3.6?

Thanks!

So what's the update with regards to ICS for the galaxy s? Which ROM is everyone using at the moment and more or less how stable are they? Is everyone still on teamhacksung or has a better ROM sprouted up? Also, for those of you using ICS, how is the app support so far? Any complaints due to incompatibilty and the like?

Sorry for all the questions but galnet is starting to bore me.

Sgs is not getting the ICS update if don't already know, only the value pack update.
Saw someone on XDA mention it but I couldn't be arsed. I'm running b15 team hacksung and I honestly haven't found something not work bad enough to stop me from using it.

I personally prefer team hacksung. Balrome's latest RC got pulled.

Yeah I knew about the SGS not getting an official update. I meant custom roms lol. Sorry if that wasn't clear. :)

Thanks for the heads up on team hacksung. What are some of the problems with the rom, if any?
