Official Thread: Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)

Read my posts a bit earlier on - I couldn't get into recovery mode with the 3-button-press either, so opted for adb (Android Debugging Bridge). You get it when downloading the Android SDK. It's then as easy as plugging your phone into USB, opening up your command line interface and running:

Code:
adb reboot recovery

Your phone will then reboot into recovery mode. :)

FARLignton, on XDA, they also said that it has risk becuase if it fails you cant enter into recovery mode with the 3 buttons. higher chance of bricking the phone. BUT ALAS, I will try it. now to find ADK pack.

edit: i found hte adk pack on XDA, but it is taking forever to download. does anyone know of a faster place to get it. it is ridiculous, on 10mb line!!!

That should only be a concern when flashing a custom ROM. For rooting it would be nearly impossible to brick your phone. I didn't, so I highly doubt you will... ;)

OKay I got busybox, and i tried to follow XDA directions for putting on the new file. however it wont work. I tried using terminal emulator, but wont work. has anyone of you used the eris market fix? on sgs?

Has anyone tried to go into recovery mode on a MTN Galaxy S with the 3 key combo?

I can't get mine to boot into the recovery console. My friend's Vodacom galaxy S boots into recovery mode with no problems

mine doesnt either, so to root it I used the ADK and in CMD you just run sdb reboot recovery and it wiill boot automaticallly into recovery mode and the follow instructions on the sgs. It seems to be totally random to which devices work and which dont

It's not a carrier-specific thing. It's a firmware thing on batches of handsets. I can't perform it on mine, neither can a colleague who got his yesterday. Hopefully the end-of-September firmware upgrade would sort that out.

Best option right now would be to boot into recovery using ADB.
