Official Thread: Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)

Okay so last night I used Kies to backup all my data (would rather be enjoying a glass of wine with my husband) this morning, I suddenly have no more error messages on my phone. But then I found out that GMail is not syncing as before - it now refuses to sync.
What can I do? Autosync is on, Sync Gmail is on, I've tried going to Applications, Settings, Manage applications, but can't find Gmail on the list to clear the cache as suggested on a different forum.

Any ideas of what I can do to get my gmail syncing normally again. (Flip I missed a 12 Apostles special this morning due to this problem!)

Solved it ...
1. Press your device's < Home > button, then press < Menu >.
2. Select Settings and then Applications.
3. Select Manage applications.
4. Press < Menu >, the select "Filter."
5. Select "Running."
6. Select Calendar Storage.
7. Press "Clear data."
8. Wait for everything to re-sync.

Seemed to bring back the latest emails - now I just have to see if it syncs properly.
 
I don't like it when this thread is not on page one.

So - Anyone else running Darky 10.2? I am. Its real good.

My first custom rom and it feels so sharp compared to stock 2.3.3
 
Just upgraded to Froyo...now I only get Edge on CellC where earlier I used to get HSDPA... also APNdroid doesn't work any more. what other App can I use to control my data usage.

Damn, looks like Darky 10.2 requires a full wipe of phone data. Any idea of an app that'll allow me to back up everything? (apps, contacts, sms's, etc)

I didn't do a full wipe and it worked, flashed new Darkcore with Odin then flashed to Darky 10.2 with Darkcore CWM, I don't care much to listen to the official instruction since I know what I'm doing.

But to answer your question Titanium Backup, it's the best.

Only time you need a wipe is when you want to start from scratch. You have to be on JVP or JVQ before doing the 10.2 via either CWM or the new Darky Rom tool. But if you not on the JVP or JVQ you will lose all data anyway. Best thing is backup with Titanium and then you can restore the APPS only (no data) once installed. Sometimes restoring data corrupts information when going from 2.2.x to 2.3.x.

Still on JVH here, but I'll give Titanium Backup a go and restore the data portion for only my bigger apps (e.g. gameloft games)
 
On darky 10.2 now from stock jvq cfkernel and so far am finding it slightly better. Apps seem a little snappier and mybb app doesn't crash everytime after clicking a link.

A quick glance at this thread tells me that a fair number of you galaxy s users are on stock gingerbread.
Well I've tried doing the same but settings>about phone>software update>check for update tells me that there's "no update available" and KIES freezes out on me for some reason.

So what are my options now for upgrading my baby to stock 2.3? Or am I doomed to delve into the world of rooting and custom roms if I want gingerbread?
 
OK, so my Samsung Galaxy has developed a new unintended feature. Everybody who calls me now sounds like a chipmunk. So if I laugh at you when you phone me, it's not cause what you are saying is funny, but you probably just sound like Alvin on the phone to me! I don't know how to fix it!

Are you using the latest version of Kies? I'm not 100% sure about it, but I've read that you need an updated version of Kies for it to install the latest Android version.

^ Yep. Updated to latest version. Kies also detects that there's a new firmware version for my phone. When I try to upgrade, it downloads the new firmware but the application crashes when it tries to install for some reason.

To be honest the best thing you can do for your SGS is flash one of the more popular custom roms. The difference between stock firmware and say Darky 10.1/10.2 is massive! I had the phone for 2 days before flashing it and haven't regretted it oncee :)

Also, the flashing process does not require you to be rooted and most custom roms will come pre-rooted (i.e. after installation you will be automatically rooted)

Thanks a lot for the feedback. The more I think about it, the more it seems that you're probably right about this. I guess I just gotta close my eyes and do it.

Just make sure you have the three button combo working (dunno how you flash without it in the 1st place) and backup your efs folder (or whatever its called).

These so ive read are very important things to do first. My 3 button combo wasn't working btw so had to do the fix.

OK now i need to know whats a good rom to use.. Im on DArky 10.1 and its very laggy and slow.

Anyone want to tell me about the miui rom.

does it have BLN support? etc etc
 
Did you turn on the lagfix, mine was disabled after I installed it, but it still ran fine without it...

Hey there. New to the whole custom ROM thing and trying to root my Vodacom Galaxy S is a pain in the rear. Are you sure you don't have to have a rooted phone to do Darky 10.2? How do you go about flashing it then?
