Official Vox DSL feedback thread

I've been on vox pure dsl for about 2 weeks now. I've noticed reduced quality in dstv streaming. I thought I was going mad. I plugged in an Afrihost dsl line that I still have active, and the quality improved.
What I noticed on my network monitor is that, on the AH line I was getting download spikes of about 600KB/s, and on vox it was around 350KB/s.
My line syncs at 24Mb, speed test shows 19Mb down.
Am I going mad? Some sort of throttle?

Nope. not going mad. My line syncs at 22Mbps , I only get 11Mbps down.
Openserve doubled the line speed, but your ISP is still throttling the account to the (old) account speed.
I have much the same: 22.5 Mbit line, 19 Mbit speed test.
Line still not upgraded to 40 Mbps as it was promised to be.
:(

I'm definitely being throttled/shaped on vox pure DSL. Ran my afrihost account for a few hours and had no issues

I've been without internet for about a week now. Logged a fault with Vox who said they logged a fault with telkom. The technician came through unannounced on Friday and spoke to the wrong person who told him that everything is fine.

Now I can't get hold of anyone at Vox to get a new technician to come through. They just tell me that the ticket is still open and they've contacted telkom. To make things worse, everytime you phone you get a new person. I wish they'd just give me a single person to contact and follow up with.

Anyone know what to do in this situation?

I downgraded my line speed with Vox from 40Mbps VDSL to 20Mbps VDSL as I'm too far away from the exchange. I received an e-mail from Vox saying they're in the process of changing to a 20Mbps and it will take 5-7 days for the downgrade. Why is my internet down? Will I really have to wait that long? T.I.A.

Nope, not yet.
The mail I got said it would happen from March 1st:

Dear Customer

Openserve, our upstream provider and the owner of the DSL network infrastructure in your area, will be doubling their DSL line speeds as of 1 March 2021, per the table below.

Vox will automatically upgrade these line speeds in keeping with Openserve's service changes at no additional cost.

Current ServiceUpgraded Service*

10/1 Mbps20/2 Mbps
20/2 Mbps40/10 Mbps
40/10 MbpsN/A

I sent an email asking when my 20mb DSL service will be upgraded. Got a call back saying the only Fiber lines will be doubled and that their email system mistakenly sent an email out to their DSL subscribers. All the news from openserve was that both DSL and Fiber were to be upgraded at no extra cost to ISPs. I smell a rat.

Well, no upgrade for me - nor do I want it.

I'm on 20Mbps VDSL with marginal SNR. A line speed increase will in all likelihood make the line unstable with a borderline SNR.

I have been asking Vox repeatedly for the last two months to let me remain on my 20 Mbps pure dsl account, and to just drop the price they charge me from the old R700 down to their website's advertised price of R575.
Finally, yesterday, they acknowledged and my statement now reflects the correct price for the product: R575 pm.

Geez, but Vox are difficult to deal with. Their inability to communicate astounds me.

Interesting. So they told you the DSL upgrades were still happening? I think the technician who called me may have been telling porkies.

No, not at all. I have received no communication from Vox at all. Neither has my line speed been increased.
They said it would happen in March and it didn't. Then April, and still nothing.

Fact is, I'm happy with 20 Mbps. And I don't relish line issues and dropouts if the speed is increased more than what my line can handle.
So I just wanted to stay on 20 Mbps and pay the new lower price of R575 pm.
Getting Vox to acknowledge this request has taken nearly two months.

Got a reply from VOX on double upgrades for those interested.

"You are on a Pure DSL package, and Telkom is not doing the double up speeds for that service. Only for the legacy ADSL service.

Unfortunately Pure DSL clients will not be getting up graded"

But you have to request a price decrease, as I did, in line with their new pricing structure:

Is anyone aware of any undersea cable breaks that are affecting ISP's including VOX? My internet is crawling so I contacted VOX and they told me over the phone that there are multiple cable breaks on EASSy and SAT3 causing congestion on the WACS cable system.

The thing is, I can't find reports of any of these cables suggesting they are down...in fact the status is Operational.
Is VOX lying to me or am I missing something?

#metoo. Vox very sucky the last couple of days, mainly to europe. You're not imagining it.

I have a small 20gb account with infogro and not having any problems at all with it. Not sure what cable system they use.

Off completely here. Nothing. Anyone else?

Edit. Sorted overnight somehow...

Anyone else with excruciatingly slow speeds?

Getting this on a 20Mbps line:
Ping: 61ms
Download: 0.85Mbps
Upload: 0.15Mbps

Today, yes, Again. Getting more frequent now with Vox...

As I understand it, there is a problem with sending a signal from the server side. This is not a very pleasant situation and a possible reason for losing online.
