Hey guys, did a quick search and didn't find any results, hope someone can help

I've recently upgraded to Windows Vista Ultimate from XP (clean install) and 2/3's of my old cd's don't read in Vista (all of them read fine on my XP laptop.) I just get an "insert disc" message and the cd's get ejected. I have 2 DVD drives (a Sony and an LG) in my rig, on seperate IDE channels, both of them are less than a year old, newest firmware, drivers etc. I thought it was just the crappy low-quality CD-R's I used to store all my old photos etc. on, but why do they work fine in XP and not Vista? The thing is I get the same problem with some older game and software CD's (all original, promise) which work in XP and not Vista, yet Vista runs new DVD's etc fine.

Any ideas? Is there a hotfix or registry fix anyone knows about, it's getting really old to access everything over the network from my laptop!

Really strange. Have never seen or heard of such a problem before. Try upgrading back to XP.... might work then.

thanx for the reply guys, keep 'em coming!

tried other cables, still no effect

as I said before, the 2 drives are each on a different IDE cables

I also made a dual boot with XP, they work fine in the XP :(

Actually Windows XP had a similar problem before service pack 2 fixed it. Might even be related.

Do a search on it.

Garyvdh, thanx for the advice googling now... ;)

I have Vista Ultimate and quite a few of my programs etc arn't wotking...I think it also ,may be why my DVD Writer aint working.

I Have two Hdds. a 160G and a 80G (Vista on the 160G)

How would i go about installing Xp on the 80G and then setting up a dual boot?Is it hard?
