OnePlus 15

I bit the bullet and also purchased of Geekwills.com yesterday.
I decided on the 16/256gb as I don't tend to fill up up my phone and it was on sale.

I paid $706 which worked out to R12.4k

Now we wait for delivery.
Arrived in 8 days, invoiced the phone as $120 and ended up paying an R560 for customs (VAT).
So all in the total was about R13k

Digital Chat Station on Weibo says that “OnePlus and Realme have officially merged.” The two smartphone brands will merge their global and domestic (China) operations under a new “sub-product center.” Marketing and service for OnePlus and Realme will apparently also be merged. A separate report mentions that the newly merged teams will report to Pete Lau (Liu Zuohu) and that OnePlus and Realme are to put additional emphasis on “the reuse of product lines” (translated).

I am genuinely happy with my purchase. I cannot compare it to any recent phones - I am coming from a 4-year old Oneplus 9 pro.
The response is snappy, the battery is amazing - for my normal use it gets at least two days on a full charge. The ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is great - in the almost two weeks of use, I have yet to scan my print for a second time to unlock the device. It just works. The touch response is very fast and you can navigate the screen even with wet hands.

I do miss the alert slider a bit. I liked the physical trigger of switching between ring, vibrate and silent, but that is a small negative. I'm sure that once the plus key receives some additional functionality or ability to customise functions, it will be worth the loss of the slider.

The customization options on Oxygen 16 are endless and you can really make it your own.

If anyone wants me to check or respond on anything specific, you can let me know and I'll try and give some feedback.
Hey Mets hope you well bud.
I'm going to buy one from America while I'm here. OnePlus 15 global.

I'm with Vodacom at home, are there any network issues? I assume it should be good but would like confirmation that it works fine, else I will get the bands and ask Vodacom if it will work. Thanks

You should be good to go on any of the local networks. I'm on Cell C and haven't had any issues. I do have the Chinese hardware, flashed with the global rom though. I just did a quick Google search and it confirms that the global rom is compatible with the networks in ZA. Welcome to the club, I'm sure you will be happy with your choice.

You a legend thank you good sir!

Not sure if it's already posted but worth a look.

Spoiler alert; not only does the OP15 out last the competition but I'm willing to bet it charges from 0 to 100% a lot faster than the rest.

There is just so much to love about OnePlus phones!

Without doubt the best bang for buck... Not even close...

I got one November 2020 through Vodacom. The one and only OnePlus they've ever offered on a contract.

Sold mine about 18 months ago.

My brother in law got the same deal on my recommendation. He's still rocking his, into its 6th year!

Impressive device!
He's looking at buying the OnePlus 15. Geekwills.com still the way to go?

So I was about to buy from Geekwills myself but then I sent them an email as I'm just a little concerned about OnePlus15 and their whole restructuring.

I asked them (and maybe some of you guys have more info on this but) - Since this is a Chinese hardware model flashed with a Global/OxygenOS ROM, will the device still receive official automatic over-the-air (OTA) updates? If OnePlus scales back its global software development, how will this affect the operating system on this phone?

If the brand downsizes its international footprint, it may become harder to source replacement components locally. What kind of hardware warranty or repair support does Geekwills offer if the phone experiences hardware issues down the line?

Maybe I'm worrying about nothing, but I'd rather be safe than sorry and order the phone and have issues in the next 6-12 months.

Phone receives updates, with the same frequency and method of delivery as would be the case on global OnePlus running oxygen os. There's also the option to use 3rd party app such as oxygen updater to download full or incremental updates when they become available.

What is your area of origin? Accessories are almost none existent locally, locally being South Africa?

Having said that I have never had an issue importing covers, charging bricks, cables and replacement batteries for an aging OnePlus 7T pro. A couple of years ago I bought 3 batteries off of AliExpress, original OP batteries. R1.2k all inclusive.

A warranty claim would be potentially a far more complex process. The phone would need to be shipped back to OnePlus China I would assume. Time delays, risk and cost all incurred by the owner.

I've been a OnePlus user since the 3T back in 2016. Have owned 6 or 7 OnePlus phones since and not 1 days issue with any of them. Not one!!

Having said that I have always been worried about an OBF. Such an event would be unfortunate and rather inconvenient.

So it is your view that the restructuring of OnePlus won't affect updates for users who buy from Geekwills? Just want to make 100% certain.

Received it today!
So far so good, there is a few things I need to get used but man it's night and day compared to my S22+.
Happy to answer any questions!
@TheNabster

So how're you enjoying the OP15?

Did it ship with oxygen os?
Is your Netflix performing as expected? Widevine L1?
Are you getting the OTA updates? I think there has been at least 2 updates since April.

How are the cameras? Perhaps the phones weakest element is photography and video. Weak compared to more expensive flagship devices.

It's a bit concerning that Geekwills still hasn't emailed me back. I emailed them on Sunday and I understand they won't answer over the weekend, but it's Wednesday evening and still no reply.

It makes me think that email correspondence with this company is going to be a chore. If I need tracking details for the parcel, do I wait a 3 days to a week?
