Oneplus 6

ty

I alternate between Nova and Squarehome, now and then stock OP launcher but seldom.

Spent the whole day trying to install custom recovery on the 6!! What a pain that turned out to be. I'm rooted with Magisk, unlocked the bootloader and running TWRP recovery but not at all convinced about the stability of any of it.

The 2 main reasons I root, Titanium backup and custom fonts. Can't get the custom fonts to apply...

Anyway, here is my first official setup on the 6. Screener hasn't been updated with a OP6 template so still using a 5T template...

Only reason I root is for adblock.I have a question for you. Between the Oneplus 5(T) and 6 what would you say are the biggest differences or upgrades?

The improvements are across the board but mostly quite subtle and some are probably psychosomatic.

6 is quicker but only fractionally. Camera seems quite a bit better but I haven't tested extensively. Will be interesting to see what DxoMark score the 6 gets. The 5 managed 87, the 5T was never tested. Some think the 6 will break through 100. DxoMark might not be the be all but it's certainly a decent indicator.

The design feels a lot more premium with the all glass finish but I think the 5T is a more robust design. In hand the 6 just oozes class and refinement. Noticeably bulkier but in a good way...

The screen seems a lot brighter too which is surprising cause it is essentially the same screen.

Also for me the call quality has got progressively better from the 5 to the 5T to the 6. I really feel call quality is poor on the 5. It was horrendous on the 3T.

Battery life apparently is better on the 5/5T.

But coming from a 5 the biggest difference is the screen for sure. Bezeless, 84% screen to body ratio and fingerprint scanner on the back plus the bloody notch. One thing about the notch, you instantly reminded that your phone is current current current... Face unlock is bloody brilliant too but you get that on all the way back to the 3T now, maybe even 3...

Thanks buddy. I am a fan of OnePlus. It's been a pleasure seeing them improve year after year.

Pleasure!!

Me too!! The stock android experience coupled with high end specs at a reasonable price point, just can't be beat...

Just pulled the trigger on a 6. Is there any screen protector or cover included?

Both a factory fitted screen protector and a clear plastic cover. Neither of particularly stellar quality but good enough until your source something better. There are however various packages available where decent glass screen protectors are supplied.

Thanks.

Will see if it has the legs to replace my pixel 2 XL as a daily driver.

Arriving:*

Excited :)

Really loving the phone so far. Still getting used to having on-screen navigation buttons again.

I was not expecting to like the gesture navigation as much as I do. It works really well. If OnePlus adds a gesture for sliding between apps like with the iPhone X I'll instantly switch to it full time.

The included cover doesn't seem that great. Has weird splotch marks across the back. Just as well I also ordered the Karbon Protective Case because it looks awesome.

Looking forward to the upcoming update that let's a percentage be used for the battery indicator. The vague bar image is so much less useful.

You really don't need a screen protector on Gorilla Glass 5. I'm on the verge of tearing off the included sticker, as it just collects dust and doesn't feel nearly as luxuriously smooth under a finger as Gorilla Glass. My OnePlus 5 doesn't have so much as a micro-scratch on the display and it never had a screen protector.

I also prefer my phone's naked. My pixel has no screen protector. Also no real cover. Have a dbrand skin on it.

I'd just prefer some sort of cover while I test the 6. There might be a chance that I don't like it and if that's the case I can flog the 6 as brand new, if that makes sense. If the camera holds up there is a 90% chance my pixel will go :)

I think the camera is where you going to notice the biggest difference. OP6 not quite in the league of the Pixel, if we being honest. Also the single down firing speaker vs the stereo speaker of the Pixel. Other than that the OP6 more than holds its own.

EDIT: Actually my first impressions of the camera were good to excellent but I been playing a bit more today in low light environment and I'm a little disappointed. Pics are looking a little smooth and noisy...

While I generally prefer phones naked, both my OnePlus 5 and 6 have had covers on. Both were the official Karbon Protective Case and used purely because they don't extend the height, width or thickness of the devices in any material manner. And they look cool. I do like the peace of mind knowing that my phone isn't accumulating scratches.

The camera is excellent. Reviewers crapping on it must be people who can't be bothered to ensure the focus and lighting is correct before taking the shot or taking an extra shot in case one comes out better. Even professional photographers don't rely on a single particular shot most of the time when using professional equipment.

My dad sent me some pics taken about an hour ago in his backyard. I was stunned at how good they look. This camera is killer and anyone willing to make half an effort can produce great shots with it.

So waiting on the 6T. Just because I seen the 3 and 5 both show it's worth the wait.

But really want to see how this stands up against other phones.

Google Photos broken for me this morning. Pics not uploading. Anyone else?

No issues for me, but perhaps the issue existed and was since fixed.

The battery life is so nuts for this phone. Still have 89% remaining and I've used it a lot today.

Gees, I never get anywhere near that. 5 hours screen on time max!! On 5/5t/6 so far. Must be the app's I use and the way I use the device. Root too could cause undue battery drain.

Mean while here's a pic.

Looks good!

Make sure you go to the app settings for battery draining apps like Facebook and Instagram and disable background activity in the battery options. Makes a big difference.
