I'm looking into buying one.

Is there like a how to or something? I imagine it's not as straight forward as just entering my card details to pay and my address for delivery...?

You can save yourself a lot of effort (and money too if something happens to your phone) if you just buy an LG G3 locally. It will cost around the same, has marginally superior specs, microSD support to make up for the storage space deficit, a better screen and more attractive appearance. You will need to root and flash Cyanogenmod 12 on though if you want the best experience possible.

for a phone that is unlock friendly, and seemingly built for people who are happy to run custom roms; it surprises how many people are crying about cm12s and oxygenos being delayed.

the hardware issues i can understand though.

I gave up waiting for 12s a while ago and flashed 12 on. Lollipop is a massive improvement over KitKat. I think OPO owners are angry because a big selling point of the phone was that it runs CM out the box. Having to manually flash custom firmware defeats the point a bit. Also, the update is just taking an unacceptably long time.

Well no, because loads of Android users around the world haven't received an OTA Lollipop update. But it's particularly annoying for OPO owners, because their phones are CM branded.

Where would you suggest buying the G3 from, cash?

Takealot had an insane price for the 32GB G3 not long ago. I see it's gone now. Real shame you weren't looking for a phone a few weeks ago. The G3 doesn't seem to be in stock in most places. Maybe the G4 is around the corner. You can get a Z2 brand new for R5075, which is a pretty good deal. Almost identical specs to the OnePlus One, but with a better camera, more attractive appearance and waterproofness. Again, flashing CM 12 will provide a vastly improved user experience with that phone.

All that wait for a plain stock rom with no distinct apps or features. Fail OP

Bring on CM12s

Nope. So over the wait luckily im upgrading soon but sad that I will probably only use CM12s for a day or 2 until I get my new phone

Anyone know where I can get a replacement screen for my OnePlus, preferably locally. I bought my phone in Jan and dropped it a month later, my fault since I had no case or screen protector :(

Last month I bought a screen on AliExpress, the seller was recommended on Ifixit and some other website, Paid about $105 but the replacement screen was a dud, it also had a crack but the seller doesn't want to refund, I'm still awaiting the Buy Protection outcome, but it doesn't look good since I didn't open the parcel in front of the courier, so there's no "evidence".

That sucks, sorry. Not sure on where to get a new one, but I can comment on the refund process.
Try everything you can through the AliExpress route, if you don't come right, you notify your bank. They'll refund and reverse (payment s by CC) after filling in a form and providing proof of AliExpress failure to refund you. There will be a time limit with the bank though, so don't let AliExpress drag it on and on, they tend to try that.
