Hi All

I am considering to move over to Openserve FTTH and therefore I need feedback on the following ISP's listed below:

Accelerit 100Mbps @ R1113 & 200Mbps @R1493
Afrihost 100Mbps @ R1117 & 200Mbps @R1497
AXXESS 100Mbps @ R1135 & 200Mbps @R1505
Firstnet 100Mbps @ R1115 & 200Mbps @R1495
Imaginet 100Mbps @ R1165 & 200Mbps @R1535
Mind The Speed 100Mbps @ R1116 & 200Mbps @R1496
Webafrica 100Mbps @ R1119 & 200Mbps @R1539

I download quite a lot over HTTP, FTP, P2P and Torrents and I watch a lot of YouTube videos so I am only considering ISP's which offer uncapped, unshaped services which are not throttled in any way and does not have a FUP.

I know most of the ISP's says that their services are not throttled in any way but are their services really unthrottled especially on P2P and Torrents?
How is the support provided by the 7 ISP's listed above?
What router is included by the ISP?
Would I be able to access the router or is the router locked down?
What is the contention ratio of the ISP?
Does the speed for local and international bandwidth differ much?

I know the service from CISP is good but 100Mbps @ R1499 & 200Mbps @R2409 is a bit expensive.

Screenshots from https://www.mitsol.co.za/tools/nperf-speed-test/ would also be welcome.

@AcceleritZa Nice to see they dropped their Openserve pricing.

You can add these ISP's to your list

BeBoradband
Gigago
Seacom
UniWisp
Inforgro

Out of all these ISPs your best bet would be

1. Afrihost
2. Seacom
3. Mind The Speed
4. Accelerit
5. Gigago
6.BeBroadband
7. Infogro
8. UniWisp
9. Axxess
10. Webafrica

If I had to choose I would pick Afrihost because I use them currently and they are very decent. Seacom is also a not a bad choice @ R1380 for uncapped, unshaped and unthrottled 200/100Mbps line on Openserve. Accelerit is also pretty good. Axxess uses Afrihost network so they are decent. Webafrica has their own network now and they use Echotel which has been decent. Mind The Speed and Infogro useses network-platforms which has also been decent. Gigago is backed by Metro Fibre Networx. So basically a selection of decent options.

Thanks Cavedog, please advise what router did they supply?

They supply a dlink dir825 but the wifi is not stable on it. I'm looking to flash other firmware and see but I would recommend something like the Tenda AC10 or AC11+

I'm using a Tenda AC10 which I got for R492 brand new. Limited features but has the important stuff and VERY stable. Want to see how long I can get uptime for because I also have it on a battery backup solution so it never gets switched off.

~6 days uptime because I switched to Vox details a few days ago.

is this graph on your profile with Afrihost?

Yes it is the graph from Clientzone.

Hey Gerhard

Very glad to be on your shortlist :)

We offer a pretty sweet deal on the pure fibre with 2 months free, as well as free installation, router, etc.

However, I guess the most important part is your internet experience. We believe our network offers a great experience and great speeds.

Hop over to the Pure Fibre Feedback thread so you can check out what people have posted in terms of speeds and experience.

I am moving from Cool Ideas to Afrihost, so far the guys at Afrihost have been very helpful and no email of mine was ignored (That is much appreciated) @PBCool please play nice with @AfriMan and ensure my line is migrated to the holding pool

Now for the actual migration *Emailed Cool Ideas for feedback on migration* No reply...... Afrihost says they can hook me with data account even if cool ideas have not released the line. So lets see what happens.

Just to comment I am moving from Cool Ideas 100Mbps to Afrihost 200Mbps. No real reason to leave cool ideas their service was ALWAYS ALWAYS up just feel they are quite expensive and I am getting a 200Mbps connection from Afrihost for the same price.

Had Afrihost when I had VDSL and it was a stable connection with the exception of the cr@ppy telkom DSL line which was always down with it rained.

Have our connect team not confirmed the line is set to be released at the end of the month?

Great to hear you'll be joining us. Double the speed for the same price is a very sweet deal :)

You can PM me for a username so you can start using our network while you wait :)

@AfriMan, thanks for the feedback.

I have the following questions, please advise if you would be able to answer.
Would I be able to access the router that is provided by you or is the router locked down?
What is the contention ratio of the ISP or is the contention ratio determined by the FNO?

You can use our router for any ISP - we don't restrict it at all.

We don't work with contention ratios - we don't put much faith in them. Ultimately, contention is a fluid concept, this changes constantly. Also, the way we've designed our network - we can light up additional capacity pretty much instantly at any time. So we'd much rather work with our clients actual internet experience. Hope that makes sense.

Where did you see the Seacome pricing for Openserve?

On openserve they do have a fair usage policy as it states. For the 200/100 package they throttle you if you do >1tb over 10 days which is a reasonable limit for most people.

You can add MWEB to that list as well now. Their prices have reduced quite a bit and some have become unthrottled and uncapped. No I don't work for MWEB I just received an e-mail from them this morning telling me that my 10Mbps contract will be reducing from R599 to R399 and will have no throttling. That's a R200 saving. I'm happy :)
