OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

I want to start a new thread but at the same time I feel its such an injustice. This thread is titled "OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)". Why is it that now all of a sudden, only people with good feedback are now allowed to post here else it turns into insults?

I think we all (including me) need to take a big breathe and stop trying to silence one another. We all have our opinion on the matter.

I did not have a good experience. I had my doubts about the Tiers since day one. I tested different tier accounts at the same time. So my opinion is not based on pure vigilantism.

The truth must get out there. There are too many innocent, non-technical people being taken for a ride. And I am not keen to watch that happen from the stand.

I don't feel that that is the case at all.

Exactly. The deep breathing has been initiated, all will be calm soon.

I had a good experience most of the time - had one of the nice accounts. :)

So there are definitely those that have good experiences, as indicated by Zewp and our other Dr. Fair enough.

Continue as is without personal insults, without trying to push and change opinions, and let everyone make up their own minds.

Remember that just because someone posts a positive opinion, does not mean they are trying to undermine those that feel strongly negative. Likewise, if someone posts a negative opinion, does not mean they are trying to undermine those that feel positive.

Keep the personal insults, as well as the personal interpretations, at bay, please guys.

Thanks. Are your details stored in the router, or do you and your mate dial connections?

Looks like it's being shared with a fairly light user. :)

Yip, stored in the router.

Correct, because both concurrent connections are being used.

Lol, ai. Maybe I got lucky and got paired with some granny who only checks her email once a while. I guess that explains my good speeds then.

But what's weird is I was looking after my parents' house for them while they were away on vacation and I was using the uncapped account there. It wasn't running at the flat at the time and on Friday I asked my flatmate to connect to the account to test it. Here's the post from friday:

Righto. Just got confirmation from the flatmate that she's connected to the account and has access to the internet. That would make it two concurrent connections- one running from my flat and one running from home here.

So either we got lucky and this other person's router was off at the time or my account allows more than two concurrent connections?

Yes, a lot of people have been having problems here and yes, support is now gone from this thread. And I AM leaving OW now thanks people having made things worse, rather than better.

I too have put in a cancellation with OW. Because they no longer use this forum. Because the service is getting worse.

But how did "people" make it worse? Doesn't the blame rest solely on OW for having the service degrade? Retiring from this very important forum, where public opinion is at it's strongest? Sure, I can understand Keoma backing off if he as a CEO would like to focus on his business instead of responding to "forum trolls" (no offense guys, I am one too). But to have his appointed rep on the forum disappear as well? A midst all the allegations? Kind of like "anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of mybroadband law?

I'm sorry if you feel that way, but this whole thing started for the exact opposite reason. I called you out last night because I felt that you didn't want people posting here when they were having a good experience. It started with your posts aimed at DrJohnZoidberg and saying he is MrBeep.

My entire point before this fight even started was that some Openwebbers are having a good experience and some are not. It seems those who are not have a tendency to call those who do shills whenever they say anything about their accounts. What I want is for people to stop this nonsense. Just because someone is having a good experience doesn't mean he's a shill.

Neither side should be trying to silence the other.

Take usage stats' 17th day for example. We can see by the times of connections that there are two connections being used, but multiple IPs. So it's important to go by connection times, and not IPs, because those are easy to change when just two or even one connection/s are being used.

Do you recall a few disconnects on the 17th, as implied by the logs?

Yes, I felt like he was trying to silence people (even though he wasn't actually based on his explanation to me later) and then I without actually thinking I did the exact same thing. So I apologize for that.

I have a goal in mind with this, and I guess I have to remind myself as well to do it with the right values in mind :)

Welcome to the club :)

Spoke to the CrystalWeb support people yesterday and their products seem solid if what they said is true. I'll be free to move from next month so I'm excited to see what they can offer. The prices are really good too.

If anyone wants to try out this Openweb 2Mbs account I have in the meanwhile is welcome to PM me.

I'll pass, thanks.
Just bear in mind, a solid person with a professional reputation is at the helm. Unlike a certain doctor whose name I dare not mention, I find DJ to be one of the rare kinds of people in SA today, with integrity and honesty.

I suggest you start a new thread with your company, you are talking about integrity which is very debatable.......

Admirable given our prior run ins.

Not to discredit DJ in any way but I'll hold on for a bit, the Oobshark project was also managed by DJ and doesn't look like that ever launched (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/510094-Do-you-want-to-help-defeat-the-OOB-shark).

Not saying this is the same case, and Oobshark would probably not have brought in much revenue, but I don't just trust anyone until I see a solid product being delivered.

And this is why I hate forums when it comes to your business... One small freaking mistake gets held against you for the rest of your life.
