OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Not to discredit DJ in any way but I'll hold on for a bit, the Oobshark project was also managed by DJ and doesn't look like that ever launched (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/510094-Do-you-want-to-help-defeat-the-OOB-shark).

Not saying this is the same case, and Oobshark would probably not have brought in much revenue, but I don't just trust anyone until I see a solid product being delivered.

And this is why I hate forums when it comes to your business... One small freaking mistake gets held against you for the rest of your life.

As far as I know, DJ did not make any mistakes, he simply did not have the time to launch the solution. Can't blame him, he does have a day job.

Hence why I say...
Its all the same thing really... you can't get round to doing something, and YEARS LATER, someone, will dig up an old thread to discredit you. Why? What for? To try and prove superiority?

I didn't mean he made a mistake, just using that case as an example. Is DJ doing this new project full time now?

IDK ask him yourself...
In any case, you're the one who instigated an argument a few pages up, so I am not taking the bait by responding to you any further.

I have stopped everything else, yes. No more incubation business, no more consulting, no more trading - I am the full-time MD of Crystal Web...

I had just about zero time back then to commit to OobShark, and it needed someone to lead it properly. I offered to hand the reigns over to someone who could take it over and nobody wanted it, so the project fell by the wayside. As an aside, Oobshark was never going to make money - that was never its intention...

Nice. I'm looking forward to see what you guys have to offer.

When we launch you'll quickly notice that this isn't a Mickey Mouse business. I look forward to impressing you.

One of the items on my list of things to do is please you specifically on the VDSL side, which we are not yet happy with on our end - hence why it's not yet available.

But that's enough hijacking from me again. This is the Openweb thread - I merely wanted to reply to the posts about Oobshark which was a volunteer-based project between a few of us that I simply couldn't manage given my time constraints at the time...

Admirable given our prior run ins.

You mean like that time when I pointed out in what a ****ty state South African internet is and you lost your mind like a cocaine driven keyboard warrior demanding proof in an atheist/believer debate room?

It's not in a ****ty state.

As for the rest... :erm: OK.

So far, from having used the account for a few days, performance has been great. YouTube has been funny, but it's been funny for everyone the last while, it seems.

You need to get in touch about that...

WTF is going on with OW recently - I've already cancelled my account but have to ride out their damn notice period - in the meantime this is the kind of service, shaping, throttling, etc I'm getting - just got home a little while back and had my ear chewed off by the wife who could not use the net at all today - following results and logs for today...

SpeedTest as taken earlier - seems full line speed (or as close as dammit):

Speed log graph for today thus far:

speed_graph1.jpg

From 07h00 to 17h30 today the line was absolutely dead - I had nntp running with a limited 20kb daytime speed, nothing else running - my other half could not retrieve mails (pop3 and web), browse http, youtube nor use picasa and the likes.

Switched to my backup unshaped account when I got home and it flies again at 4MB on all protocols - switch back to OW and nothing more than 20kb with the odd burst in between on any protocol... even now at 9pm it's shaped/throttled to **** - *mad*

No response from online support either - they'll probably just give me another login name and some bull**** story - think I'll just burn my month-wind-down subscription and sign up elsewhere - cannot continue like this!
Who can we complain to - paying for a service and getting close to nothing in return (bar a few kb for two thirds of the day).

Browsing is sluggish tonight, everything else works fine...
