Actually, we can.

By moving to another ISP, you are effectively resetting your session on the exchange.

This is why when you reconnect to your OpenWeb account, miraculously everything works.

It is very unfortunate that most Telkom problems are unfortunately pinned onto the ISP.

Last night I was about to cancel.
I am sick and tired of every month the same crap.
If you don't have enough bandwidth or whatever then sort it out.
You can't tell me that using afri made such a huge difference

We haven't changed anything on the network.

The network is too large to make sudden changes. Any change takes a few weeks to plan and execute.

Same here, now suddenly it works fine. Its too late to fix your problems now openweb. People already cancelled, no use trying to get them to stay now.

May I please request that you power down your router for no less than 30 minutes then back on when you experience an issue.

You will be surprised as to how often this will resolve your issue.

Yeah, a friend of mine who does networking explained this to me. Basically the exchange will keep your connection active for a fairly long time (usually up to 30 minutes) on the off chance there is something that causes it to drop, so that it can resume your connection as quickly as possible. The thing is in order to start a completely new session you need to turn your router off for the full 30 minutes so that the exchange goes "Oh, you aren't online. Let me kill this connection."

So no response, ey? Unfortunate, I was trying to be really polite. Guess I'm going to be climbing aboard the cancellation train soon since I can't get a straight answer from anyone.

I'd just like to ask something of the Openweb guys, and I hope I can get an honest answer.

Recently we've seen this thread explode with people complaining about OpenWeb performance, myself included. I have friends on OpenWeb, they all have issues too.

None of us have issues when switching to other accounts, and we see reports of the same here.

My question really is, if OpenWeb is just having general issues right now, why can the reps not just say so? Honestly it would be so much easier if we just got an honest, "We're experiencing a lot of issues related to xyz, we're working on it and we apologise."

Then I could handle the crappy internet because I know it's a general issue and it's being worked on. What really gets under my skin is that we get constant requests to do various tests and moved to different accounts and all this nonsense, but if what I've seen in this thread is any indication (and my own experience) that's not actually going to help. The problem is OpenWeb's side, and yes I'm sure they're dealing with it.

I just want some honest and open communication, that's it. So please, can one of the reps tell me truthfully:

Is OpenWeb experiencing general issues right now? Is there anything significant we can actually do about it individually, or should we just wait it out?

No I don't believe OpenWeb is experiencing any general issues, otherwise I would have been affected too. My internet has been fine, shaping has been more noticeable at the beginning of the week but from yesterday everything has been pretty quick and was totally unshaped last night for me.

Hope this answers your question.

Hi, im new to mybb, and currently very unhappy with current ISP and would love to try out openweb, how would i go about getting access to a trial account?

Dont come to openweb. RUN AWAY WHILE YOU STILL CAN. Openweb is one of the worst ISP's in south africa. Im sure in Zimbabwe you get better internet then this nonsence of an ISP.

It doesn't really, it just creates more questions.

I know it's not "just me", that much is obvious from the myriad of similar complaints both in this thread and that I've heard first-hand through friends also on OpenWeb. I mean, why is it that in the last two weeks these forums have been full of people saying they're cancelling their OW accounts? It really can't just be some strange coincidence.

I appreciate your response though.

I've experienced very good customer service from OpenWeb, and the initial couple of months I had my account it was pretty good.

I've only had issues in the last few weeks, as it seems others have had too. Wish I could just get that resolved, but I'm working with cableguy so who knows, maybe something will happen.

Will report back.

To be honest i can live with a periodic account reset or new account details every few months if it means rock solid downloading and good latency for the other 99.9%.

You can do a lot worse than Openweb

Maybe you have had a bad experience, but i've only had great feedback from friends about OW, so ye thanks for your input, but I will be the judge on what is good and what is bad

How does one go about cancelling your Openweb account? Have been more happy than not but I have a 4mb line and using a 2mb Gold Uncapped (Original) but the 4mb options at Openweb are either non Gold (which sounds like complete rubbish) or the more expensive 4mb Gold (which i don't believe is worth it due to my experience with the 2mb Gold)

If Openweb had a 4mb afterhours uncapped account i would have jumped on to that for the same price, day time speeds can even be 384kb/s
