Mine's gone, then back, then gone again...
Switched to my Mweb account again just so I can browse and do mails. Terrible and unstable OW

Seems I am part of the suffering Western Cape this week, over a week ago it was the Microsoft and Apple updates, this week may be blamed on the steaming of the ABSA Cape Epic. Bottom line, judging from the last few threads posted here, the sheeple are getting restless. :whistling:

Yeah - so I complained about my speeds and PM'ed Cableguy. He promptly gave me a 5GB capped UNSHAPED account which off course FLEW ! Mentioned that it works great.

Sure enough he almost tricked me into buying a 300GB Capped Unshaped account at almost double my uncapped p/m rate!

I politely told him NO thanks - fix my uncapped account. Never heard of the man since !

I never expected my uncapped account to perform at the unshaped speeds, but i mean - to get crippled like this most evenings/days is just unacceptable ! Perhaps I should try to find out if one can lay a complaint somewhere.

The thread is handled by myself and cableguy.

If I reply to posts here, rather PM me. If cableguy reply to posts here, rather PM him.

You will not get a reply from the off duty rep

According to the error log, your ADSL line is losing sync to the exchange. This is either a router or Telkom fault.

Trace route to the server, get the IP of the 2nd hop and ping it and Google while playing, when lag spikes occur look at the pings, if it shows the spikes then you know it's the line.

Disconnect all other devices on the network and connect your PC to the router via ethernet and make sure no downloads/uploads are running.
Thanks, will give it a try.

Thanks MrBEEP, however why does my backup Mweb account work faultlessly when I switched over. Telkom have done port resets, etc and I've tried 2 different modems (both new).

Use the MWeb account for as long as you use the Openweb account to test whether it's the account dropping or line.

I'd just like to ask something of the Openweb guys, and I hope I can get an honest answer.

Recently we've seen this thread explode with people complaining about OpenWeb performance, myself included. I have friends on OpenWeb, they all have issues too.

None of us have issues when switching to other accounts, and we see reports of the same here.

My question really is, if OpenWeb is just having general issues right now, why can the reps not just say so? Honestly it would be so much easier if we just got an honest, "We're experiencing a lot of issues related to xyz, we're working on it and we apologise."

Then I could handle the crappy internet because I know it's a general issue and it's being worked on. What really gets under my skin is that we get constant requests to do various tests and moved to different accounts and all this nonsense, but if what I've seen in this thread is any indication (and my own experience) that's not actually going to help. The problem is OpenWeb's side, and yes I'm sure they're dealing with it.

I just want some honest and open communication, that's it. So please, can one of the reps tell me truthfully:

Is OpenWeb experiencing general issues right now? Is there anything significant we can actually do about it individually, or should we just wait it out?
