Thanks. I guess I should have signed up with mweb instead :'(.

I am cancelling (if they ever respond to my emails sent to the cancellations email address) and moving to the 50GB Fat Pipe Cappe + Afterhours uncapped bolt-on from Vox, so total cost is R229 and i get to use my 4MB line, compared to the almost R400 i am paying for a 2MB Gold Uncapped

Depends what you're wanting to achieve. If you need 24/7 consistency, then I can definitely recommend MWEB. If you want to download lots and have a quality after hours connection, OW is great.

Using the report toll it seems that my line is running perfectly.
I am on the 4mb uncapped gold and in the Boksburg, Sunward Park area.

I'll end up cancelling and moving to another ISP if this continues or I'll switch to gold uncapped. Anybody having issues with gold during the day?

I don't work from home on a weekly basis, so can't vouch that it is shaped every day, but the times that I have personally used my Gold account, was pretty dismal. The S/O works from home more regularly and we've gone about purchasing small capped packages from another ISP, just to get about during the day.

Shaping, is unfortunately, part of the reality of uncapped services and I understand the business reasons for/behind it, but it has to be managed well... not to <20% of "normal" capacity, especially considering what people are using <10MB lines.

The argument of upgrading to a business account is completely fallible; if I'm on leave and want to check my mails, surf the webs, connect to a private VPN or download a linux distro, all for personal use, I don't see any reason why I shouldn't be able to do so on a normal, home account. What about customers with students/scholars in their household?

The general feedback that I've received regarding my account is that shaping is applied. I've had a temp account before (whilst they were investigating) and experienced the same issues. Other times, support has told me that shaping is in effect and that I should ensure nothing is being downloaded. I've gone so far as to disconnect all devices (pc's, laptops, tablets, phones) and set up a home pc, where nothing is updated during 05h00 - 20h00, monitored all traffic for 2 hours, all just to determine whether I'm being shaped senseless due to other pc's updating in the background (like AV, Windows updates....Steam).

As I've mentioned before (and as agreed by others), based on my experiences, OpenWeb is currently an after hours and weekend service. And that's when it works perfectly. But only then.

Meh, my line has just been sort of "fixed" by telkom, and after 3 weeks of no usage, I come online to being shaped to 80 KB/s on my OW Gold account. Then again, it just turned to 5pm and seems to suddenly improved.

No. Wired 100Mbps home network.

If the line was idle when you ran that test then the line is definitely not perfect, not horrible but you shouldn't see spikes like that.

This is what a healthy line should look like:

7pm and bang, flying relatively quickly again - this used to happen around 5pm...
Going to have my line/exchange tested with Telkom again as the daytime speeds are not workable.

So slow, I can't even run speedtest.net. Just as I was thinking about upgrading to a 10mb account I've been disappointed again. I may as well not have an internet connection during the day :(
