OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Video streaming is going terribly today, constant buffering on my 4mb account. Randburg area.
 
Also in randburg area and my account is crawling, been waiting for nearly 2 hours for support to let me know whats happening, they replied it was esculated now i sit and wait, i cant even get 60kb/s on speedtest with a 4mb gold account

This side as well (Cape town). Doesn't matter what I stream(besides youtube) the speeds are terrible even streaming from shoutcast is buffering every now and then. Don't really know what else to do about streaming I have mailed support a couple of times with no real solution.
 
Also crawling at 40kb on speedtest on a 10meg line, in the Strubensvalley area.
 
Try this;

Change DNS to 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4 and clear DNS cache

Trace Route to Google.com
Trace Route to bbc.co.uk
Trace Route to Netflix.com

Reboot modem

Do saix.net speedtest

change DNS login to
username: guest@telkomadsl
password: guest

do saix.net speedtest again

post results here and email support.
 
The rule of thumb is very simply.

The more you pay, the lower your contention ratio (amount of people sharing capacity) and the higher your priority on the network :)

Thanks, but effectively as consumers we just need to believe that is the case? There is no reference to various contention ratios and priorities that I can find so there would be no come back if I felt I wasn't getting what promised.

Your services sound good but I'm all for total transparency. The whole reason for considering a move away from MWeb is the vagueness of their AUPs.

Your naming conventions could certainly use some work. Three Gold offerings all with different prices and therefore presumably different contention ratios and priorities.
 
wow openweb crawling today.... 140KB / 1.14mb dl speed from easy news web on my 6mb line...damn thats not even a 3rd of the speed I'm used too....wish i could pay 1/3 of the price every time this happened

are any of the under sea cables down?
 
Woodlands, there is an OW issue. Just because yours is fine doesn't make it a line issue. My line is always working great and it is just this past Sunday that the speed was very slow.

MrBEEP, is your support team in the habbit of not responding to queries? I sent my ticket through yesterday evening, I got a response asking for more details and I sent it through and I haven't heard still the following day....
 
I see all tickets have been responded to.

This weekend saw no general issues. There were however 104 SAIX / Telkom network notices open all over the country.
