OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

I'm starting to ascribe to these "conspiracy" theories that people are purporting in this thread. Seems to be able to explain this ridiculous garbage perfectly. Obviously the other person I'm sharing my line with is also downloading so we're only getting half speeds.

Now support needs to see which of their accounts is not being shared and allocate me one of those so I have the entire 10Mb/s to myself. Until such time that someone piggy-backs onto it and we only have half line speed again.

Then I will go through this tedious and nauseating process again.

Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice (or actually innumerable times), shame on you.

True, how come the allocated account doesn't work correctly but "the other account" does. Makes no sense. Already had this done twice...

More than likely because the new account is on a new chunk of bandwidth, with less users contending for it ('contention ratio'). Cheaper accounts have higher contention ratios; the more the chunk is cut up. The problem goes further, because 'Gold' accounts often have the above problems. The advertising would make one think they wouldn't.

yup 0.0something kb/s my speed test is still running for the past 5 min not joking ( on a supposed gold account, might aswell be broken dial up), love open web. how do u go about getting a cancellation letter from these guys.

oh ye and its still busy with the speed test in the back ground.

Thanks PP, makes sense. Does seem that all OW account types seem to be experiencing problems recently, maybe too many subscribers, although the advertised accounts seem limited in numbers...infrastructure issues maybe?

BTW, now using 3G backup 'cos all OW protocols other than NNTP are knackered...

I think the 'limited numbers' refers to how safely the chunk of bandwidth can be cut up.

I am told that I should request a port reset from Telkom because there have been connectivity issues recently in Cape Town.

Can't get through to Telkom so tried a prepaid account from a competitor which is going full throttle at 10Mb/s.

Strange.

Cableguy, sent you a pm. Bad speeds the last 2 weeks on http downloads, video streaming and p2p. On 4mb uncapped gamers king. In Durbanville.

@cableguy @MrBEEP

Can you please provide a solution, or give me another temp account for playing Diablo 3? I'm paying for a gamers account, that should be unshaped for gaming, Diablo 3 has still not been fixed.

dead again in edgemead..........telkom account flies.

Mr Beep / Cable guy, PM me why my account is shaped so badly please...................

@MrBeep

THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOUR SHAPER.

I am getting FULL LINE SPEED ON TORRENTS AND USENET.

At the same time I am getting less than 2kB/s on http and https traffic!

Your shaper has been set the wrong way round!

Something is seriously wrong. Getting shaped into the ground (10KB/s) with torrents...on a gold account...on a public holiday...after 5pm. Not impressed. Not impressed in the least.

Funny how all of you complain, I'm on Gold account and have downloaded nearly 20GB today without a single problem. But I suppose I'm going to get the "you're one of the lucky ones" reply. Nothing wrong with the shaper in my opinion either, but I guess I'm in the minority here unfortunately.
