Hi Yster,

If you experience a problem, we can move you to a different backbone.

Our default backbone, IS, is the best overall for latency.

MrBeep,

Can you please provide me with a list of all the available backbones? And, if possible, a traceroute of each network?

The BCS backbone has been giving those issues for a while now. I was on it about two months back and I would also constantly have issues connecting to Steam.

I may stand under correction, but I believe the list is;

-Altech
-BCS
-DSLHeaven (WebAfrica, but I think these accounts got moved to IS)
-Internet Solutions
-SAIX

Hi thaabietv

The BCS engineers are working on it. Can you please check now?

Yip. Youtube just doesnt want to load and steam as well. Tried a backup account and it works

MrBeep, are these SAIX accounts linked to a specific phone line? I'm currently at my old man's house and trying to connect to the account from their router. The ADSL light syncs, but the internet light stays off, so I can't get internet access on the account from here. The router over at my place is off, so it's not an issue with too many concurrent connections.

It's nothing too serious, just prefer to usually use my account when I'm at their place seeing as I don't want to use their cap.

Hi Graal,

Yes they are. SAIX are quite strict about this policy i'm afraid.

I am on @dslheaven.co.za, line speeds are fine but the latency is very poor, anyone having that problem?

Couple of days ago I complained here about my VB account having become erratic and slow.

Well, I guess it's human nature to always seek the cause of a problem elsewhere, so I phoned Telkom to test my line or do a port reset or whatever... an endeavour at which I failed miserably, due to the extremely "circular" and frustrating process of Telkom support. Luckily so, as it turned out.

So yesterday I walk past a PC shop and think what the hell, buy a new router as a backup in case mine ever dies.

And so it came that I "tested" the new router and ... yup you guessed it... for the past 24 hours my VB account has been performing flawlessly. So much so that I'm too afraid to put back the old router (to see if it is indeed broken), just in case it jinxes the story :)

Moral of the story? Not sure, but I think it's that I should buy less brandewyn and more routers... ;)

And I guess this is a longwinded and lame way of saying sorry for my earlier whining post.

Hi sammy7

We encounter quite a few cases similar to yours. A router can be a very misleading device. I always suggest (if possible) to have a spare router in your cupboard at all times. It is a great troubleshooting device!

MrBeep, my speeds and latency on speedtest are all looking normal, why is my ingame latency so high IE WOW sitting at 400+ where it normally was on 200ms while I was on a @openweb.co.za, this @dslheaven.co.za is not good for gaming or do I miss something ?

Hey Fayera

Please drop us a mail: [email protected] and include your ADSL username. We will take a look for you :)

Fayera, when I was on dsl heaven I had issues with latency in games. I later used ping plotter and discovered that I am getting lots of packet loss. Switched to IS and things were great again. I have recently switched to the new saix accounts and I have to say it performs well all around.
