We do not throttle on Gold, thus we cannot have such a notification as it will never be activated.

Kindly email [email protected] so that we can investigate

ALL clients were unshaped from 18:00 last night. If you had a problem then, I would highly suggest you contact your line host and log a fault.

When I had Axxess as my ISP, in the CP I'd get a notification each time I was being throttled. Is there a way I can check this on Openweb? I have a 2MB Gold account and I'm being throttled like mad, I think

That does not rule out a congested exchange.

Things might however resolve themselves once the Steam sale ends :)

I will ask telkom to check for exchange congestion. However, I am still able to download at 1.1mB/s ? Just extreme latency in online games.

MrBeep.
I am on that 10mb gaming package.
On this tracert, does it not show that its congested at IS ? ( I dont particularly understand the result)

Thanks

Is AMD's site being shaped or throttled? I'm trying to download a display driver from there but it's going at a glorious 16kb/s. What should take me 10 or 15 minutes is now going to take me more than two hours. :/

Hi Zewp

The network is very very busy today, thus shaping might be more aggressive on download sites.

We believe all should restore itself by tomorrow afternoon, as the Steam Sale rolls to an end and some other updates complete.

I have a backup ISP just in case one goes down. As soon as I switch over to it, my speed increases so I assume that it must be on OpenWeb's side and not Telkom

I have to resort to 3G just to get info off the net, fml :wtf:

hop 5 is in parklands (za) and the next hop is docklands (uk), so no, that is not congestion on IS' side.

I thought as much that was going to slow down the network. l'm happy that my browsing is all fine. Youtube is being shaped down to 60kb/s on my 1mb line.

Surely this cannot be normal shaping?

Ah, well I guess I can't complain too much then. The Steam sales have kept my line pretty busy the last few days. :p

Moved from Telkom to openweb.
So far awesome service, very happy with the streaming (which is why i moved)

I am also trying to get drivers. My line runs at about half speed for the download. MR Beep i can understand News server and Torrents being throttled when the network is busy but normal HTTP?
BTW: forget to try watch Youtube, it even struggles at 240p

Youtube is not shaped. We prioritise this traffic.

Guys

I am currently on a 1MB account and I am considering upgrading to 2MB line speed. (Unfortunately my finances only allows up to 2MB account.)

Do you guys think it is worth going from 1MB to 2MB line, taking into account a reduction in line speed due to shaping etc? What speeds are we looking at for Torrents, internet downloads and Youtube downloads.

I am normally (during evenings) getting a total avg speed of 0,82Mbps on speedtest.net.
