MrBeep, can you please ask your support to maybe consider looking at my ticket.
I'm having to use Afrihosts 1GB free account right now to even be able to play BF4 let alone browse the web.

OpenWeb 2mb is all kinds of terrible today, same as yesterday, generally buffs out in the evenings.

Seriously guys I moved from Mweb, pls, at this rate I'm thinking of trying out Afrihost.
 
Hey guys,

My first post here. I am currently with AfriHost on a 2mb uncapped home account. The shaping is horrendous at the moment and I have been shaped for the past 2 weeks. Well everyone has been.What are the speeds like on OpenWeb and do they also give gaming and real time services priority. i.e. Youtube etc? And then, what is their shaping like? Are they iffy about torrents etc?

Kinda crazy for a 4Mbps account, regardless of it being a shaped account. Do you use it for games? Are they working now though streaming is not?

I'm on the cheapest 1Mbps account- that I can understand being throttled to hell during office hours. Glad I'm not paying more for it...

This is something that makes OpenWeb unique. If we can get the client back online immediately, we will. If this involves handing out new details left right and centre, that is ok.

I demand the guys get the client back up and running first, and then in our own time investigate the cause of the issue. This allows us to dedicate more time to troubleshooting, and the client is immediately happy.

Perhaps we are the only ISP with this motto, but we have no intnetion of changing it.

Thanks for that reply- I always viewed the need to change accounts as a bad thing. If it resolves my connectivity problems quicker, I guess it's really a good thing. Much appreciated. (I hope that's not just good spin ;))

Gaming is normal with good ping as it should be. Downloading the Battlefield 4 beta on Origin runs at around 160kBps, which is fair shaping. After 5 it runs full speed. Browsing is ok as well. It's just the streaming that is dodgy as hell atm. It isn't normally.

Ah, cool. Makes more sense.

There were some streaming issues further back in the thread that were being investigated. Not sure what came of those.

I use flashvideodownloader or equivalent as my line cannot handle HD. Takes longer, but at least it plays back properly when done- an option for you?

I use aTube catcher sometimes, but normally I can watch at 720p without buffering. :)

I saw the streaming complaints. MrBeep is working with IS to try and resolve some issues, not sure if streaming is part of that. I hope so.

The account works pretty well most of the time though. I am not plagued by congestion and other problems like the western cape is though.

A quick update on this.

The clever engineers have resolved many of yesterdays issues. Well done to them.

Gaming should now be 100% normal.

We are still working on streaming at this stage.

why are all the interwebs so kark at the same time? something bigger is going on and its not apple. apple was the excuse that week but we are way past that now! everybody except telkom adsl.....

I tell you - it's those Mweb defectors !
 
OW 1mb Gold Ucapped barely usable today. Websites time out, emails take forever to load, etc.

Emailed support, got reply saying it's shaping :(

Local speedtest result:

Download Speed: 106 kbps (13.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 382 kbps (47.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
 
We do not prioritise speedtest, thus it will show shaping.

Speedtest uses a small file download on some of its applications, which the shaper picks up as a download and shapes accordingly.

We can follow suit and prioritise speedtest like the other ISP's do?
