The IS server is property of IS and not openweb, and is thus managed by IS and not openweb - however openweb clients still have access to it.

Just to clarify... Openweb users on other backbones than Internet Solutions cannot use "news.is.co.za" ... right?

If I'm on a VB account, is there such similar news server I can access perhaps?

Thx

Thanks agentrfr,

So yes it would a contended service :)

Are you on a gold account agentrfr if i may ask?
Was interested in the line speed really :)

To be honest, I've never had anything slower than full line speed on new files, and about 150kB/s on files older than 60 days.

@sam

Yes, you are correct. You need to be on the IS backbone to connect to the IS server. I do not know if the VB has a similar service.

@Amphibious

I'm a 4meg Gold subscriber.

I recently signed up for the 2Mb Gold Uncapped promotion.
After a painful 3 months of battling between MWEB and Telkom to sort out my ADSL woes, all I can say is there is a god and its name is OpenWeb.

I Commend the OpenWeb staff and services!

+1 to this they are AWESOME :)

So this weekend I had a particularly bad experience with my 2Mb Uncapped Standard
Fri eve at approx 8pm and could not stream Youtube without buffering every 10 seconds so switched to my prepaid Axxess account and my issue was resolved.

Was there any reported issues on Friday or am I just expecting unrealistic results wrt the Standard account?

Possible cause its standared , higher contention and or harsher shaping due to higher traffic of the VIP gold members :)

Hi Mr BEEP,

Hope you had fantastic day :)

Just to find out what time do restriction kick off and on the Gold uncapped account?

Thanks

Hey Amphibious,

There is no specific time, as it depends on how busy the network is, but today shaping was removed at 17:00 for Gold clients.

MrBEEP,

Last question :p

Over the weekend while testing download on news.is.co.za i was getting my full ADSL line speed of 8Mbps.
Now i'm getting 4Mbps to 4050Mbps. Just to find out why or does it have to do with the network?

Thanks once again for an awesome experience and service from OpenWeb :D

Hi Mr Beep

My webpages are timing out, but P2P is running at 75-80% line speed 2Mb,

The DNS i got in my router is 168.210.2.2 and 196.14.239.2

i changed it to 8.8.8.8, and my webpages are loading again.

Is it just me?

I am on Platinum Unshaped on a 2Mbps line (capped) - however my speedtest results always come back between 1.5 and 1.6 Mbps? How do I get this closer to 2Mbps?

if you have a 2mbps line then that can be due to the PPPoE overhead, if thats the case you cant do anything about that except get a faster ADSL line

I've just signed up on a Budget capped 30GB account and my speed is rather sad at the moment. I have mailed them but awaiting response.

Line syncs at 7004/639.

My backup axxess is going at full tilt while this ^ is the best result I've had out of a handful of attempts on my openweb account. Most are coming through at +-80kb/sec.
