Mrbeep, I do not think you and your time get enough thanks. People are very quick to moan and complain when they get 1Byte slower than they should, but hardly ever congratulate you when the going is good.

Well, I am posting today not to complain or moan. I am posting to say thank you.

My stats:

* I have been an Openweb client since 2005
* I have used probably every single account type you ever had! (Remember Openbrowse!?)
* I have had my good times and times of turbulence.
BUT

When something goes wrong, you guys are SO quick in sorting it. Your team, Leon, Charmaine, Dane (these are the ones I have dealt with recently) are brilliant! Always friendly, always alert and always have a solution that works!

Thank you Mrbeep. Thank you Openweb.

Yes, I will be enjoying my unshaped access tonight, just like I did last night, and the night before and every night since I joined in 2005.

I have just unshaped the entire network for all folks until 8am tomorrow morning.

Happy downloading!

Don't you feel sorry for the folks on other ISP's who will go to bed shaped tonight?

Please give me some advice. I moved my ADSL account from MWEB tor Afrihost last month, but I only traded one problem for another. Afrihost's shaping gives me about as much speed as MWEB's throttling. I am now considering OpenWeb's Gold Uncapped or AfterHours Uncapped. I opened a 10Gig Capped product just to check the speeds and it seems fine. Does OW really have a superior product or will it be a mistake to move my account again?

I've been with OW for just over a month now and I had some issues in the beginning, they were quick to sort it out, unlike those !@##!@#!@ at Mweb, where I was previously. I'm happy with the after-hours speeds, it's decent and, like I said, it is a bonus to have support staff that aren't robots. During the day, there is shaping, of course, but if you are just doing browsing you will be fine, save the downloads for later :)

Just joined on a Gold Account...lets see how it goes. Mostly use the internet heavily at night from 7pm to 7am.

I've had no issues for a while now. Since I've educated myself on how to diagnose speed problems I have come to realise that 90% of my issues are congestion related. I simply run a speedtest to different servers and a tracert to different sites to see what's going on.

I must say that what would help would be a prioritised speed test site like mybb and leave the rest as is. That way one can very easily determine whether or not their current issue is due to shaping or not. In fact I reckon someone could whip up an Android app that automates the test to make it even easier. Also makes for a great platform to market new products and specials and shows a commitment to support and service for the customer. It can be branded as an Openweb speed test app to avoid having to deal with the PR nightmare of calling it a shaping checker.

Just a thought...

Just signed up for the Leon Gold Uncapped. Happy to say speeds are flying :)

Glad to have moved from not-so-fast AH :p

+1, I completely agree!

It would be far more useful to have a frame of reference in way of a speedtest that shows 'full speed'. If download speeds are slow but the speedtest shows full speed, then we know it's shaping. If download speeds are slow and speedtest ALSO is slow, then we know it is congestion/telkom/line/router/whatever.

Western Cape this side.
