DS, the IP addresses are not static, therefore any tracing system you use will be inaccurate. If memory serves me correctly, you are an 011 462 xxxx like me. Use twitter to DM @telkomZA and ask to be put onto a different card and do a port reset while their at it. My experience is muuuuuch better after I did that.

And no, your account is not being used by someone else. Need proof? Ask to change the password :)

A different card? What does it mean? I can't access to my OW client profile because my original client login details (NOT FOR THE ROUTER) are not working, since he gave me a different ADSL account login details.

With "a different card" he probably means another line card in your DSLAM. It's basically what they did for me as well when I had issues in November last year. I can almost guarantee you, you're in the same boat. Like I suggested, contact MrBEEP and ask them to perhaps alter the routing of your account. If that doesn't change anything then it's most DEFINITELY your DSLAM port that's causing the issues. Then can simply switch you to a different port is your current one is broken :)

OK :) Thanks for the replies, guys. I'm going to ask TelkomZA on Twitter to change my port (Physically?) on the DSLAM now.

MrBEEP:

I was getting full speed on torrents overnight and now it's at 2kb/s. I do understand that shaping needs to be done on P2P protocols but this is not the type of performance I expect from a gold account.

Unless my exchange is currently congested which I don't think is the case.

DAH dude, why would they, or any other ISP, give any sort of priority on P2P during the day, Gold or not that will be a little daft.

Just say thx for mostly unshaped weeknights and weekends :D

Whatched Hackers by any chance?

How in the world is it daft to expect more than 2kB/s on torrents? He never said he expected full line speed during the day.

Maybe it came across wrong sorry, but not daft for him, daft for the ISP, as that will kill of everyone else if they even give 1/4 priority to P2P during the day.

Lets say OW says "OK peeps, we will be open up the throttles for P2P during the day, you should now be getting 50% line speed." - Can you imaging the impact that will have on everyone else if every farmer and his mom decides to download P2P?

Simple solution: DON'T do P2P in peak times, you WILL just be dissapointed.

In that case I should change to an everyday uncapped account if I should expect the same level of service.

Gold is still a winner dude, and maybe 2kb is a little poop, and all I was trying to say is, instead of trying p2p in the day, klap it over night and weekends, you will catch up more than trying in the day anyhow.

Wasn't trying to be a smarty pants was trying to help in my own weird way.

PS: how many seeds on that download?

PPS: Have you tried a local seedbox?

*I shall go put myself in the corner for a timeout*

I just emailed support, but while you guys are on the topic :) This is now total curiosity, where does Gold priority come in to play ? What does this mean for a Gold account user. If shaping is applied to all the accounts ( mostly during the day ), are there perhaps different levels of shaping for different accounts ? Is it possible, maybe something to look at for the clever engineers ?

How do I change my IP address? I had my router off for about 30 minutes but my IP address is still not changed :(

It's about contention ratios, which prioritises bandwidth according to the account type you have. If there is a lot of spare capacity, the accounts with perform more or less the same, but when it gets a bit more busy, Gold will perform better than lesser account. There are also different zones, each being monitored on their own afaik.

That is how I understand it at least.

WTF! Adobe Flash Player cannot be updated because of slow/daed connection. I think it's being shaped right now. Web browsing's pretty fast but software updates are impossible to be completed. Wonderful. Tell me again what's the actual differences between Gold and Silver.

This is solely controlled by Telkom.

Unfortunately we 'give' them a set of IP's to dish out to clients

Gold gives you:

* Extra redundancy in case of an international cable break. Gold users will benefit greatly when a cable break is in play
* Overall less shaping. You will see relaxed shaping first when the network quietens down
* More throughput overall in a month due to the lower contention
* Priority in the case of a network event, issue or failure
to mention but a few

Can someone tell me what the problem is, I am wanting to play Star Trek Online, have been playing for years with no issues, and now it just times out all the time, here is my trace router, from what I can see, local seems ok, but a soon as it goes international it sucks:

What is really refreshing here is the honesty and open-ness from the rep. Try getting that kind of info from Hernshaw's company, MWEBGuy will treat you like a fool.

I had an issue with my line this week too, turns out to be the exchange... the Telskommel fools were doing some kind of planned overtime maintenance.

Is it worth upgrading to a 2MB account if my router is synching at 507/1956?
