Yesterday there was an issue with a second cable break. Did you try adding the DNS settings to your router?

No this isnt just based on yesterday. Its since Ive had the account. Every time i ask they say its shaping, then a standard account user says "Thanks openweb i dont notice shaping"

Try this DNS setting:
Primary DNS: 196.14.239.2
Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4

Or try another router. If you don't come right then your exchange could be congested.

Kindly PM me with details of your problem.

Also please include your ADSL username.

I have a question MrBEEP, should we be expecting the same type of line quality we had before the Seacom outage?

I can temporarily live with my current line quality but I think people are made to believe they will have the same quality as before the Seacom outage. Here are some international speedtests to prove my point:

First one was when they launched the new speedtest for mybb back in Febraury:

Test conducted on 2/12/2013 7:56:11 PM

Download Speed: 6161 kbps (770.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 778 kbps (97.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 194 ms

Next one was a couple of minutes ago using the same speedtest:

Test conducted on 3/27/2013 7:56:15 PM

Download Speed: 2776 kbps (347 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 749 kbps (93.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 188 ms

6Mb Gold Uncapped btw.

Hi Jacques,

After hours there shouldnt be much difference, as there is spare capacity available.

Please PM me your ADSL username and I will do some tests from my side

Hi Thumper,

I rate OpenWeb's products as the best out there! But then again, I am biased. It would be best to ask the community :)

MrBEEP

Is it normal to be shaped to hell and back during office hours on Gold 2mb uncapped?

No this isnt just based on yesterday. Its since Ive had the account. Every time i ask they say its shaping, then a standard account user says "Thanks openweb i dont notice shaping"

I've also noticed a marked increase in shaping from 8am til 5pm - on 2mb gold IS - please let me know if this changes for you.

OpenWeb is running my Usenet connections at full speed currently, without the need to "top it up" with additional http downloads.

Seems like everything is now fixed and running perfectly this side as it always did. Keep it up Mr BEEP!

Shaping has been more aggressive for the past month. Day time speeds are around 1m on my 4m gold but after 5 it goes full speed.
I used to get full speed all day but maybe I was lucky it is after all still a shaped account.

Yep there is no disputing that shaping has increased the last month, i dont get more than 1mb /s before 5pm, then it flies at max speed again. Nobody can dispute this from what ive read on the last few pages of this thread, not even openweb

Mr. Beep (or any other knowledgeable cats out there)

I have a 1mb Gamer' King Account. I decided on this account as it has Platinum level priority for gaming, and Vanilla level priority for all other traffic. The reason for this is that I enjoy spending a few hours every evening playing online, at which time the missus usually entertains herself on Facebook or other blogs. I wanted to avoid her browsing from interfering with my gaming.

Unfortunately, that is not really the case. I get huge lag spikes, rubber banding and delay if she is surfing the interwebs while I play, which pretty much defeats the purpose of getting this specific account. Is this supposed to be the case, and would I have to upgrade to a faster line speed to really benefit from the different priorities? If I have the line to myself, everything works perfectly: ping is low and response times are excellent.

Any help?

I think you need a bandwidth manager of some sort, and give higher priority to you, where your wife will have lower priority.

Not to say she won't be able to browse, it might just be a little slower (Because as it is now, Facebook on your wife's iPad/Laptop will try to get the page as fast as possible, which isn't "crucial")
