IPC and bandwidth is purchased for 2 years at a time. Telkom does not allow one to simply load 100Mbps for a week because the network will be busier.

The network is not congested by no means. A congested network will be violently evident in latency. Clients would not get latency below 500ms if a network is congested.

Our upstream provider is very good at sourcing bandwidth in advance, and as you can imagine, alot of time is invested into network planning and forecasting.

The network is currently busier because of all the new available content. As the folks get their hands on it, things will quieten down again.

Eg. Right now, torrents etc are looking alot better in the JHB region as alot of folks have already downloaded their items.

When can we expect an improvement in the shaping? surely if you know when the network will be congested you can make a plan?

:D thank you :)
soon like in 3weeks? :P

axess is 249pm for 2mbps and i am gonna use them for my adsl line vs 299 for telkom
that R50 cheaper and with that 50exstra i can get a better data acc

just have to wait and see :)

i sighend up for a test acc last year, but can i sigh up for one again?
just to see what pings i get in games how the speed is?,i kinda forgot the ping i got with the test acc

thank you

Code:
fsck#host smtp.openweb.co.za
smtp.openweb.co.za is an alias for smtp.isdsl.net.
smtp.isdsl.net has address 196.26.208.197
smtp.isdsl.net has address 196.26.208.199
smtp.isdsl.net has address 196.23.28.231
smtp.isdsl.net has address 196.23.28.232
smtp.isdsl.net has address 196.26.208.190
smtp.isdsl.net has address 196.26.208.193

those two servers you mentioned are not currently active as they are down for maintenance, but it should never be an issue as long as you use the hostname 'smtp.isdsl.net' or 'smtp.openweb.co.za'

I wish I could use hostnames, but it's not that simple... I've set my network up in such a way that each computer connects through one of three gateways (two are openweb and one is mweb). My mikrotik router forwards all outgoing emails to either the IS mail server(s) or mweb mail server, depending on which gateway the user is using. However, my router does not allow me to specify a hostname like smtp.isdsl.net, only an IP address, which is why I ran into this problem - I used the IP address for smtp02.isdsl.net when I originally set it up.

This method is much easier than manually configuring each computer's smtp server to be either smtp.openweb.co.za, or smtp.mweb.co.za, because when a line goes down, or if one of the ISPs is having a problem, or if I change ISPs, then it's too much of a mission to go change the settings on each computer - it's far easier to just change it on the mikrotik router.

The only problem with it though, is when the server is down for maintenance :(

Dunno how much YouTube you guys watch, but I watch a fair amount and I must say it's been pretty unstable the last few days. Some videos absolutely fly (locally cached?) but others keep giving up after a few seconds of full-speed buffering. This is during both peak and off-peak times. Weird.

Anyone else having problems accessing newshost.za.net
It just times out for me.

Same here, DNS doesn't seem to resolve to newshost or other similar sites.
I see there is a network failure in Hyde Park which caused an issue for me in the past.

isps would generally have a cluster of smtp servers linked to a single hostname in order to avoid any downtime when they need to do maintenance. which do you prefer, total downtime while servers are updated or none what-so-ever?

The Cape Town region is currently running an incredible amount of torrents according to our latest network information. Other regions are not full at all, so full speed ahead there.

The load should clear in the next few days on torrents. Also after around 23:00 things do quieten down generally, so Cape Town region should see great speeds then.

1mb Gold uncapped here. Torrent with 3700 seeds and i'm getting max 8kB/s

Hey, we restarted the router and now suddenly we can't authenticate. It keep saying we're already logged in and disconnects. Anyone experienced this before and/or know how to fix it?

I've tried resetting the router, rebooting the router, turning the router off for a while, phoning openweb (they don't work after hours), phoning telkom to reset our port (apparently they don't either). So now I'm at a loss.

Is your DSL line with Afrihost?

Morning Darkfire,

Do you have any news on this issue? Please PM me if your problem persists
