OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread

Hi I had 2mb uncapped from afrihost and after checking out some of the comments on this forum, decided to get me the 2mb uncapped gold Easter special, I was really happy at first with the speed, but subsequently had many slow response issues. When this occurred I moved back to afrihost and response was way better.

I have now cancelled my openweb account which i have had for 20 odd days and will be returning back to afrihost. For me afrihost seemed more constant during this period.

Update: I'm using an IS account now and it seems to be working great.

Hey MrBeep,

As of late I'm getting terrible pings during the day. I'm pretty sure it's due to a congested exchange and not my Openweb account since other accounts also have bad latency during the day. I've tried Telkom support centre but I'm not having much success. Do you know if Telkom can/does do anything about congested exchanges?

Looks like I am back up to speed after switching my account, will have to confirm again tomorrow during business hours but so far so good. :D

Thought I might drop some positive feedback for once. Been going strong for around 3 months now. No hassles, a hair of a slowdown during business hours today, but typically get really useable internet during business hours and great speeds 6-6. Compared prices earlier today and for what I'm paying, the service in unbelievable! I'm always tempted by gold though.. Went down from 4meg gold to 2meg silver.

Exactly the same boat. Easter gold special, 9:20pm and getting 20kb on torrents. Sending cancellation end of the week

Was getting at least 75% on torrents during office hours after the change to the gamers special, but now back again to maybe 25% max. Moved from 4Mbps Vanilla to 4Mbps gamers special.

Is that normal shaping MrBeep?

How can you complain about 25% speed on torrentz during office hours, I can't even browse a page during the day on silver 4mb.

The Easter Gold Uncapped account I am on is going horribly MrBeep. Fluctuates from 40kbps to zero, hangs for a minutes back up to 10kbps. This is not what I signed up for.

Torrents are not exceeding 20Kbps

Kindly email [email protected] so that we can investigate.

I have a feeling you are losing sync, as the account will not drop you down.

Hi Kalster,

It all depends on how busy the network is at any given time. You will notice that it fluctuates quite a bit during peak periods. After hours is generally, quiet, thus better to full speed can be expected

Not complaining, asking. Even so, your argument doesn't follow.

I have to say once again that I completely love my Openweb account. Done a few hundred gig this month. NZB's flying 24/7. Browsing sometimes a little slow in the mornings but other than that fantastic. I'm using a 8Mb Silver Uncapped account (2 for 1) special so I am glad to say its the bargain of a lifetime.

Still experiencing problems with Torrents which MrBeep is helping out with.

1 Meg line, but torrents are not exceeding 3Kbps

Probably a temporary bandwidth issue on the IS network causing shaped protocols to take a dive. I'm sitting at 1KB/s average, lol.

Waiting for 5pm to see what happens. I don't want to fiddle with this account because it's been running great for a long time now.

EDIT: Yep, there it goes. Just jumped up to 70-90KB/s after 17:00.

I killed my account :(

My own fault though, only getting a quarter to half speed on nntp after 6pm, then only after 2am does it pick up again. Going to chill on the downloads for the next two weeks, get my usage back to normal.

Code:
Local:	196.x.x.x
Remote:	196.x.x.x
Current:	13.8 Kbit/s / 37.6 Kbit/s (Out / In)
Today:	186.3 MB / 4.1 GB (Out / In)
Month:	6.7 GB / 231.6 GB (Out / In)

Must say that browsing and YouTube still performing great, so shaping policies are spot on.

You're lucky, Mine is fluctuating from 0-50 in mere miliseconds.

2 hours on a 348meg torrent, only 30% complete

1h45 on another, only 10 MEGS have downloaded.
