Anybody getting unusually slow Youtube streaming in CT? I've been forced to stream at 360 this evening. Normally I get 480 without needing to buffer. 1 meg gold. General surfing's still fast tho.

Cableguy and Ijasper will deny this, they are getting full speed from OpenWeb.

Hi getafix,

Please drop [email protected] an email and we can send you a complimentary trial account. This will allow you to test the account in a real world environment

We have chatted via PM before. I want to cancel DSTV so I need to know that I wont have an hassles with live streaming during tv viewing hours. The WAF is critical here.

Thanks

Hello K3NS31 (did I get that right?)

Please drop me a PM with your username. I would like to perform some tests on your account

Just sent it, thanks.

Oh, and Getafix33 - I have a Gold 1 Meg account and the reason I'm asking if there are Youtube issues is because I've had to watch the way I did with my old ISP. You know, choose 360p, let it buffer for 10 sec, then watch.
In the last couple of weeks since I changed I've gotten used to: make sure it's on 480p, press play and sit back and relax.
So I think you're gonna like the streaming performance.

Replied :)

Lets hope that fixes it.

Ok, so what happened? Youtube is indeed a bit choppy. Starts fast, then tapers off and sometimes stops, needing a refresh.

Hi Getafix33, I was on the 4MB gamers package, until yesterday. It worked fine for most of the time, however streeaming during peak hours was bad. After grabbing the new 4MB Gold (Orange) package, all I can say is WOOHOO!! Even during peak hours it buffered for no more than 20 minutes before it started flying again. This is definately not account related, however congestion at the Telkom exchange. Thank God they are outside upgrading the DLSAM. Cannot wait for the 20MBs..

Hi guys, the YouTube buffering thing is a cache issue on local servers. I had a fix that someone posted on Reddit a while back. Just google around for "YouTube Streaming fix Reddit"

Just an observation but every few months, our internet connection goes down from 110+kB/s (1mbps line) to below 20kB/s and we have to contact support and they do something to fix it, reset a port or give us new login details.
Not sure what it could be? It happens consistently every now and then. Ping stays kind of stable, upload speed is normal but download speed drops drastically. It has happened many times before so it's a routine now.

Funny thing happened, I contacted support yesterday and they said they tested the line and everything seems fine, but I should phone Telkom to have them check the line and also reset the port. Did that and it was still slow, as expected, so I replied to support telling them it's still slow.

Then they ask me for ADSL username... LOL I thought they tested it?
Not sure if it's just to see if they tested the same one I'm currently using, or if I got trolled the first time they said they tested it lol

Why is it going slow every now and then?

You were unfortunately on the same faulty realm that affected dharish yesterday. We have now moved you to the main realm. I do hope this resolves your problem?

Hi Solidus

There are no international faults currently. Kindly PM me your ADSL username so that I can take a look.

Same here, good speeds become crap over time, moan and get a new account, rinse and repeat
