If GOLD uncapped users like myself and others here complain about 4k/s. I wonder what speeds SILVER users are getting?

There is obviously something wrong with your account. Did you email support?

I'm on Gamers King, which runs on Standard uncapped levels for HTTP etc apart from gaming during office hours and it is running fine.

Did you think your speeds were normal or something?
 
Not gonna complain about this on a 2meg silver account during work hours

yes, I have emailed MrBeep, I will only get a reply from him about 10pm....
i can't do a speedtest because the configurations doesn't load...
Thats the error message i get...

Not fishy, as the network load usually drops by a huge wack between 17:00 and 18:30.

This is not a hidden conspiracy. It is the trend which we have seen on the network for many years.

okay, at 5pm my download is running at full speed again...fishy? YES

Maybe, but why hammer your Gold clients who are paying a premium for superior performance? If it were half speed or a third of the speed it would be understandable. But a 1/10th to 1/20th is totally absurd.

I'm on a standard account and don't even suffer from what you are experiencing. There is obviously something else wrong with your account or Telkom line then if you are getting such speeds.

My line works perfectly well with an Afrihost capped account during the day. And with anything http my 4MB Gold account is acceptable. Unfortunately, from time to time I require the use of non-http protocols during working hours. And for that the account becomes totally useless. If it was half or third the speed that would be no problem at all. But crippled is just not acceptable.

I can assure you that it is not my Telkom line, Telkom has been to my house on several occasions, my line is perfect....
There was a faulty pair once before but that has been sorted out...

It just seems odd that standard and silver users are able to download at a reasonable rate during office hours and browsing is a pleasure for them but for the GOLD users its the exact opposite, maybe we should consider going to standard or silver. It definately better than GOLD from what I have been experiencing lately...
 
Shaping is not 'hammering' anyone. It is managing you according to your contention ratio, priority on the network and how busy the network is at that specific time.

If a Gold client is experiencing very slow speeds, there is more than likely something wrong, and we will need to investigate. However, if the fault is simply torrents that are slow, or NNTP that is slow during peak, then there is not much we can do, as shaping will be applied during peak periods.

In my case it is not torrents or NNTP, but RTMP (real-time messaging protocol) for live streamed events which as I mentioned earlier in this thread become like viewing a slide show during business hours. Something that should run at about 70KB/s gets throttled to below 20KB/s while my line speed is capable of 640KB/s. And because it is live, you can't schedule an after-hours download. It just gets screwed up. I'm sure my account is working exactly as OW intends. It should not be up to clients to ensure quality control. Having already changed logins and backbones on numerous occasions for similar reasons (something I've never had to do with other providers), this is my last month on OW.
 
has the rules changed for standard uncapped. usually 5pm the gates open but its 7:30pm and im trotting along at 50KB/s.
 
So I am trying to watch some vids on youtube but streaming is very slow... Did a local speedtest and my 6mb gold line is going at 1.3mb. Very frustrating at 7.30pm. And then.....I realise that Steam fetched a 600mb update in the 10min I was trying to figure out what is wrong with my line :p

My line has been an absolute pleasure these last two weeks. Thanks!
