4MB Gold Uncapped (Orange) also slow. Had DNS issues about an hour ago and had to switch the router to a different DNS server. This did not solve the speed issue, it only enabled browsing again.

East London area.

Ditto here for me as well, extremely slow throughput of data (2Mbit uncapped Gold). For me it is not just international, it is everything (mail, web traffic, etc.). Something is definitely not right (it’s not congestion; first hop is 8ms so that’s perfect).

There is an issue in the Cape Town Region for IS.

Strange, just switched to a backup Afrihost account and now everything is very fast (browsing, mail, etc.). I thought Afrihost was on IS as well? It still seems to me that it is an Openweb specific problem, but will monitor it.

I'm not sure, do a speedtest on afrihost account and see whom afrihost is using. (Would be interesting to see)
I remember Axxess using MTN services, not sure if that is still the case.

Been extremely slow since yesterday.. mailed support and got a new account (bcsnet) from them. Unfortunately its equally bad. FTP (local) download speed on original account around 16KB/s on 2meg Silver, on this bcsnet account its even worse, currently 10KB/s. HTTP download (international) around 10KB/s as well on BCS account...

In the 2 months I've been with Openweb, this is the second new account they've given me to try.. Only thing that's ever worked as I would expect was the trial account I got from MrBeep last weekend - if network can be like that I'd be happy, but the trial account only worked for 4 days ....

Afrihost is on MTN's network...

So IS must be having a problem then. Funny that racer mentioned yesterdays speed issue. Also found my 4MB line running at about 50% of performance last night......figured it was "just on of those isolated things". Apparently not.

So if they've given me a bcsnet account to try, that shouldn't be affected by an IS problem?

I think it might affect the bcsnet account as well. Since this issue is affecting the Cape Town region only.
Intermittent connectivity issues, started this morning 8:58am.

Could that explain way I am affected even though in East London but my ISP is in Cape Town?

Not sure dude. I'm not sure about routing. I'd be assuming that traffic from regions close to Cape Town would route there first and those maybe closer to JHB would be there??? I really don't know. I'm not with Openweb. I just saw this convo and decided to put in my 5c. :)

MrBEEP, how does one setup SMTP with an OpenWeb trial account? Do you need to authenticate or is there a 'public' SMTP to use?

Thanks

Edit: Nevermind, one of your tech guys helped me out over the phone. All sorted :D

Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it. It has shed some light on the issue. Seems IS is to blame then, hopefully it will get sorted soon.

I hope imma gettin paid for this by Openweb... :D
No worries, I'm getting the same issue for my ISP, that's why i butt'd in.
I'll let you peeps know when it's sorted. As far as I could see, Telco and IS Engineers were dispatched. Dunno the real issue.
