MrBEEP, how does one setup SMTP with an OpenWeb trial account? Do you need to authenticate or is there a 'public' SMTP to use?

Thanks

You should be able to use smtp.isdsl.net with no authentication. Well, I use that on my Gold Account....

smtp.saix.net should also work (I think).

Just outta curiosity: Do people still go about using e-mail accounts from ISP's still? I don't. I use google mail, so it makes things easy to move from ISP to ISP.

I use Gmail too, but our company has its own domain and uses 'standard' email :)

MrBEEP:

SMTP sorted, thank you. This is our whole situation:

I am currently testing a 4mb Gold 'Leon Editon' uncapped account at work (I'm trying to convince them to move from Mweb). Our line syncs at 4096, so the theoretical maximum achievable speed should be +- 430kBps / 3.4mBit.

I'm running every test download I can, and am a little disappointed to find the account not performing as well as I'd hoped :(

I have been testing it this morning and have noticed that the account seems to be throttled to about 2.5mbit (just over 300kBps). We have tested HTTP single-threaded downloads (local & international), YouTube, multi-threaded SSL NNTP, and various random local & international web pages. Our network monitoring tool indicates that so far, the account never reaches much over 300kBps.

I understand there will be shaping, but no matter which protocol I test with, I can not see anything close to 400kBps. Is this normal?

Thanks

Edit: ERMEGERD I'M SUCH A TARD - I had entered the username & password on our main router, but our wifi router was overriding it with the old Mweb username and password. I've been inadvertently testing our old crappy Mweb account the whole time - lol

Now using OpenWeb Gold, for real this time - performance is great, lol :D

Hey Friends,

This fault is now resolved.

Thank you for your patience.

Response from my IS guy :

Dear IS Client

The Major impact on ADSL Service in the Cape Town region has been resolved. Service has been restored.

Vendor investigating root cause.

Curious.

Currently pulling off the IS News server at 515kbps on a 4MB Gold Uncapped. MrBeep, please tell your minions not to touch a thing. :-)

Is the IS news server on the fritz again? I can't connect to it at all.

Check my post above. Currently pulling 515kbps on 4MB Gold. In theory, I shouldnt be able to do this. On the fritz? Sure. But in a very very good way.

ALL YOUR I.S. ARE BELONG TO ME!!!
