Anyone else having horrible speeds right now?
Not downloading speeds or anything like that. Just general browsing speeds.
Even usually dependable Youtube is useless.

On 4Mbps Silver.
Already PM'd you MrBeep. Had same issue 2 weeks ago.

Weird. International is so much better than local. Hopefully not a telkom issue....

As explained earlier in the thread, you will not automatically be upgraded, as our clients have chosen for us to not increase their contention ratios. We have brought out a separate package you can change to if you would like to get the high contention packages that are doing the rounds in the ISP world currently: http://www.openweb.co.za/everyday_uncapped.html

We have left the choice to our clients. I do not think folks will be very happy if they wake up one morning and their Gold uncapped contention has been doubled.

It will be very difficult for any ISP to offer as much unshaped goodness as OpenWeb at these low price points.

Unfortunately, Telkom have not dropped our IPC costs by 50%, therefore any drop in price will mean a natural increase in contention ratio, and we all know what that means.

Ok, so pretty much what I was expecting from OW. I don't want my contention doubled either, so Im ok with not having my speed doubled.

What I find perplexing though is, Telkom did not give you a 50% discount, agreed. But they did give you a discount on IPC and gave you extra IPC free of charge if Im not mistaken? What does the equate to in savings for OW? 10%? 20%? We as the consumer are not seeing the saving passed on to us? It stands to reason that all your subscribers should have gotten a percentage discount on their current package with the same contention.

Anyone else agree?

Quick Question MrBeep.
We make use of video streaming a lot.
Will it work well on the Everydat Uncapped? Cause then I could upgrade to 10Mbps for the same price as I'm paying for 4Mbps now, seeing that my line is being upgraded. Basically all we use our internet for is a bit of Netflix and Hulu and Youtube and Guild Wars.

Uncapped Silver URL error:

http://openweb.co.za/silver_uncapped.html

Not Found

The requested URL /silver_uncapped.html was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

standard uncapped page is also missing. reported this on saturday already on here. maybe i should open a ticket.

I have a 2mb gold uncapped account, would it be worth while to go to 4mb Silver?

Browsing is okay but streaming and any downloads are totally being shaped right now. Typical of a Monday.

Hey MrBEEP

Do you think that we could get a network load/shaping status in real time on the website? Curious to see how other shaping tiers compare to Gold and the like. Just so we know how the network is being hammered so we can plan downloads.

Everyday Uncapped's contention and priority matches the similarly priced offerings, except, unlike our competitors who throttle you after a certain amount of usage, we will not throttle. We shape based on how busy the network is at any given time, and on the service level you are using.

That was in development if I am not mistaken. Not sure what is happening with it.

It is a good idea. We are upgrading our systems over the holidays and should then be able to do some pretty fancy things :)

These were pushed back into the network to improve the experience. I believe folks are quite happy with being unshaped most evenings?

Is there a menu link to these? There shouldn't be.

Vanilla, Standard and Silver is no longer available to new clients.

Current clients will be able to keep these products for the life of their accounts.

I see Leon is working with you on this.

I have invited you to PM me if this is not resolved by 17:00

Unshaped evenings? They're awesome, and I have automated my downloads to run during this time, so my download needs are taken care of and daytime browsing is hardly ever affected by shaping applied because of active downloads.

I've had solid speeds of late. Hardly an issue at all. I feel like DrJohnZoidberg - except on a ten times slower account...:D

so is that a Yes or a No on streaming on everyday uncapped?
