i hope KALSTER is listening and will listen always. and ppl like sybertiger does not count, we are not complaining about OFFPEAK speeds! follow this thread and you see that the network open up around 5PM! we are talking about BEFORE 5PM!

it's quite shocking that a big ISP only reports to there users about a telkom fault 5 hours later!!!!

We reported it when it was reported to us.

Unfortunately it was only reported to us later.

Exactly 5 minutes after we received the report it was posted here.

No shirt.

Peak times have been really painful for me this week too. I'm in touch with MrBeep, but I want to check with others. Are you consistently able to open www.dropbox.com? Mine keeps timing out.

After 5-7pm, everything goes back to normal, so I don't think I'm being affected by the Telkom fault.

I'm on Gamers King 2Mb but the connection speed shouldn't make a difference for just opening a website, so any similar profile should provide a useful result.

I'm on the same account, and peak time browsing works at full speed.

Lovely, thank you. Hopefully MrBeep can sort me out.

Out of curiosity, what profile are you on? (ie. what's after the @ in your username?) I'm on @mynetwork.co.za. I've found that profile to be better for Guild Wars 2 specifically but at this point I'd be happy to move to something that performs better all-round.

Openweb is starting to piss me off to no extent. livid now...
So today my internet is working, but pings are into the 60's to 1500's. Packet loss 2% jitter 330ms

So I check my control panel, I see that not only am i still on the "[2Mbps Gold Uncapped (Easter Edition) - Promotion] - R 299.00 Monthly" even though I "upgraded" to full gold on the 12 of September.

So what the hell is going on, my account details have changed so much that it still shows my original broken account.

Am i even on the gold orange package? Or am i still on the leon(easter)(wtf ever) gold?

SO been paying R299 but I should be paying R345? all my damn complaints about openweb have brought me basically to square one. Did i get the upgrade for free? :erm:

well the thing is openweb dont update your user cp alot
if they give a a new account or a password change
they dont change it

or when u switch networks and get a new acc, they dont update it
dont know why tho...

You are more than likely on the correct account, it was just not synced with the CP.

Kindly PM me with your OW number so that I can update it for you.

Our new CP will resolve these irritating problems.

Exactly what I'm experiencing.

Also, internet radio streaming of a 96kbps stream stutters so much it's unusable and certain things are pretty darn slow (youtube, any streaming), but compared to what I've been experiencing lately, I just don't have the energy to fight at the moment.

Liaise with staff, eventually seem to sort stuff out, get good speedtest results, but actual usability doesn't translate.
Close to trying someone else. Suggestions welcome.

I've also been paying R299 (Leon - usercp) when the site says R345 (Orange), is one better than the other, I'm so confused my head is spinning.

i cant wait for the new cp

the data tracker will be nice :)
and the more uptodate acount details will be better :P

cuz when i loose the paper where i wrote it on and need it (rested router)
i can atlest login with my phone to see it,now nope :P

the only thing openweb needs is a call support

MrBeep has logged a fault for me, so hopefully the engineers can sort me out.

I reckon I've done more than my fair share of complaining and support is probably sick of seeing my name pop up too but I still really like OpenWeb. It's just a little opaque at times.

When accounts go bad, and your port needs to be reset, or a new account issued, it would be nice if we could be told what has actually happened. If we know what's happening, we might be able to self-diagnose issues, and recognise the difference between a busy network and an account that's failing. As it is it just seems so frustratingly arbitrary.

But as I said, I love what you guys are doing. Onwards and upwards.

Lovely, thank you. Hopefully MrBeep can sort me out.

I have a trial account which I will test when I get home...
Feedback forthcoming. Throttlebug Hernshaw tightened the screws this morning, the internet was crap

Yeah so...

I had gold leon easter edition

So i upgrade because that sucked worse than any adsl I have ever had. So I got for the GOLD "PREMIUM" orange which sucks too, if that is what I am on it is pretty damn horrible.

So now i look at that page, and at the bottom pretty hidden this:

http://openweb.co.za/go_gold_uncapped.html

so their is so many tiers of accounts, with basically now real indication of what performs better and this pacakge seems to be what I should get. But you know what @ R400 I would rather cancell and get the telkom 4meg uncapped account it seems to be way better than any of the accounts that are more expensive.

I think I am going to cancel this, no damn point in sticking around with this horrid excuse of a service. Ping just spiked to 3000 how is that even possible?

I think something is wrong with a. your account, b. your router, c. your line, d. your exchange.
I have a standard account and latency is always very stable at just over 200ms to EU servers and this is even during the middle of the day.

Ask Telkom to reset your port (10210), then ask OpenWeb support for a new account, then test. If it still gives problems, then I think it's a. your line, b. your router or pots filter, c. your exchange or something to do with the Telkom infrustructure in your area.

Yeah so...

I have gone through all that over and over with openweb. I had a silver trail and it worked flawlessly, thought well get the gold special for increased reliability and got this bs.

I have my local exchange's number, the telkom technician that services my area and both have confirmed my line and the exchange is in perfect working order. It does have issues at times, but if i can use my afrihost account and it works perfectly and the openweb accounts does not work I can presume that in 99% of the cases it is with openweb.

I have had 5 different accounts too, some work well for a week then suddenly it all turns to ashe. The problem can not be with the area unless telkom actively is interfering with openweb accounts but they are too inept to do that. Even when openweb fixes the account a few days later the faults come back, i have an email account full of support emails.

I have submitted my cancellation notice and after jan I will be on either telkom or afrihost. I have gone from anger to utter disgust at their service and will in the end rate them WORSE than mweb. At least on mweb it will not work well today tomorrow issues will resolve themselves, here I will spend weeks to fix an issue just to get it fixed for a couple of days and then return.

BTW,

I have a brand new router, that I bought a week ago including EVERYTHING else including new pots filter and lightning and surge protector
The exchange was upgraded recently and is running at a fraction of capacity
Other accounts work as intended
The last account change, after I threatened to cancel worked well for a month, then a week ago it started acting up again. Which triggered the near R1000 spend to try and fix this on my side.
ports were reset 2 days ago with requests to find out if I can/will be upgraded to 10MB, fixed nothing.

Ya and things "Only 16 accounts left so hurry" my A$$, exactly what it says a week later. I'm getting g@tvol!

Gold Leon R299 / Gold Orange R345.. etc.

Getting tired of pulling wool away from my eyes, the cr@ppy scratchy kind!

MrBEEP: How exactly does shaping work with identical account types (10mb Gamer King accounts) that are on different routing profiles? Is it possible for one 10mb Gamer King account to be shaped to maybe 10% line speed, and then at the exact same time another 10mb Gamer King account to be shaped to say, 60% line speed?

In other words, is shaping determined by network usage per account, per exchange, per province, or by another factor?

Thank you

see below..KALSTER will disagree..

this is beginning to prove that there is little OR NO difference between accounts , just that some becomes unshaped at 5pm, some at 7pm, some at 9pm ect.

and that all the different accs is just marketing and being sold to sheep blinded by frustration at telkom and SA.

and that we whos paying more is just subsidizing the network and for the users on the cheap accs who get the same performance as we who pay more!

its time WE THE PEOPLE starts speaking. we call on to OPENWEB to PROVE the difference in accs to prove to US PAYING CUSTOMERS what difference we paying for!
