OK I am posting this from the trial OpenWeb Account
**DON'T FORGET TO CHANGE YOUR DNS SERVER ENTRIES**
First of all:

1) This horses**t of the router battling to authenticate that I've had since I got MWEB, is now gone!
With ThrottleBug's service, it takes up to 5 minutes to get a connection after the DSL has synched. Sometimes the router gives up and reboots.

2) MWEB is poked.. couldn't connect Dropbox.. international is slow like lard.

3) Pings to a known local host are great.

4) Pings to a US server are better than they have been

5) HTTP download from rapidgator 94kB/sec  (could be SEACOM issue or issue with rapidgator- have seen same on MWEB)

6) HTTP download from one of my own sites hosted in slaapstad 497kbyte/sec :) pretty much max line speed!

7) Bittorrent download (file has 129 seeders): max 311kbyte/sec

Will test over a weekend again and report back

I got smart. I measured my usage and realised that I'm doing about 2-3 gigs per day on average. So I opted for the 100Gb capped, unshaped account at R399-00 per month.

Shaping, begone!

Just bought an Axxess 3GB capped account to test. Same thing, so not Openweb's fault. I just need someone who I can choke....

Can we get feedback around streaming?

Openweb's "Shaping" eases off at 5.00pm.

I've been told that from 7PM to 8AM is when the shaping policy eases up. I'm on a 2MB Leon account. (Gold)

One thing that does annoy me that Steam is picked up as a P2P function, which it is, but the shaping policy annihilates day time browsing. Now I can only download my purchased Steam games after 7PM.

I don't actually know what I'm paying for. I seemed to have pretty much zero issues with a Telkom account, which just blasts 300kb/s - 400kbm/s all the time over browsing/youtube/steam.

The only time when Telkom did not perform so well is a low seeded bit-torrent download. (1-10 seeds)

I feel that I'm paying more for less. Think I'm just going to go back to Telkom... I never had a single issue about shaping policy's during the day and/or bandwidth issues.

MrBeep, how does the Telkom account shape bittorrents during the day, which is expected, but they are able to allow Steam downloads at full speed 24/7?

Oh, and not to mention.. If Steam decides to accidentally download an update during peak time, my line gets totally shaped, and I'm put into a "high usage" pool. I then apparently have to wait an hour before I'm put back into the "normal usage" pool.

Sounds like a lot of guess work.

I just have to wonder that if I can't get more than around 5% of my purchased bandwidth when the network is being hammered those odd Mondays. How do users on lower level accounts work? Another thing to add to the new CP would be the ability to see how well your account class averages against other classes.

Your everyday account should in fact be called a every night account, because that is the only time it actually works.

Dear MrBEEP

I really enjoy my adsl account.

I want to ask one thing, why, for the love of all things downloading, do I have to stay locked out of this wonder adsl account for almost 5 minutes every time I disconnect?

It completely messes up my vibe!

Funny thing about the 100GB is that it works out to R1 more for 1x 100GB Package, compared to 2x 50GB packages :-)

Agreed.....only getting around 0.30mb/s on my 2mbps connection here. I am on the 2mbps Gold package.
