I have a question during the day time when i do a tracert everything is 100% fine but after 6.30 everything goes bad 600ms plus from the 2nd hop already does that mean exchange congestion or my port is really dying ? cause i thought during the day it should be bad and night time should be fine

I think you have the bandwidth days and I have it nights - wanna share?? :D:D:D

ahhh man its so fustrating i logged a call with telkom and it only started from 7 o clock friday night :( tried 2 routers 3 different isp and tracert is killing me on everything

Have to be honest here ... I was having a chuckle at your misfortune ...

But karmas a beeeeatch ... oh yes .... Karma gave me a slap on the cheek today.

So, to sort out that karma thing ... I wish you a truck load of bandwidth on demand, and I hope that you find that your second uncle twice removed actually owns the Seacom cable and has left that to you in his will, :D:D:D

Hope what you said will come true :D I need $$$ to build my own off-the-grid fiber network to be connected directly to SEACOM with no greedy middlemen between Internet and my PC.

+1000000 karma to you for the sweet wish :)

Whoa! Did I just mention "SEACOM"???!!! It seems that I'm subconsciously wanting to move back to MWEB. Aww

I'm still using the test account that TelkomZA gave me today. It's running so insanely fast :p I'm downloading Visual Studio 2013 at 450kB/s. I don't understand wtf's wrong with my OW account.

I would say definitely :)

This is the time all the folks in your area are at home starting up their torrent programs.

Depends on your area. If you live by businesses, then day will be bad, if you live in a residential area than night will be bad as that is when everyone gets home from work.

Live in a BIG residential area - daytime is really slow .... Night time great?

I think the harsh shaping daytime is killing me.

Cant explain Boom3laar's issue .... maybe everyone in his area gets home and streams Hulu and Netflix, or he has more torrent junkies per square Km than in my area? :p

Please drop me a PM so that I can take a look at your account

Latency: 28 ms

International:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 4520 kbps (565 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 519 kbps (64.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

How do I know whether there is any exchange congestion?

Last night at 9pm I was still only getting 100 - 150kbs on my 10Mb Gamers King account, I am not sure if this is heavy shaping or congestion.

Literally a month ago I was getting 7 - 8Mbs speedtest results and download speeds sometimes peeking at 850kbs after 7pm

I am scared that it is congestion, I live literally less than 1km from our exchange :(

I would suggest you give Telkom a ring on 10210 and ask them to sync your line to the highest speed possible, and then try the speedtest again.

If it syncs downwards over time, you have some line or exchange issues, or your line cannot handle the higher speeds.

My post was related to exchange congestion, not ISP shaping.

It feels a lot slower :( Can barely browse anything. 2MB line. 1MB Uncapped acc. I'm in Constantia, CPT.

Still having troubles with streaming, but it has been determined that it is not OpenWeb's fault. Will just have to sit back for a few years and wait for SA to catch up with the rest of the world.

Hi squirrel,

Kindly drop us a mail with your ADSL details so that we can investigate

MrBeep, I've been thinking...

It would be interesting if you could purposefully set up lines to congested exchanges/DSLam's. In this way you could test a clients account on your current good Telkom lines and also on the congested ones. In this way you could see if you could reproduce the symptoms experienced by your clients when troubleshooting, to further help clarify cases where Telkom is at fault.

Just an idea, but doubt Telkom would play ball :D
