Pity this thread tends towards the negative. I guess only the okes with complaints bother to post.

Anyway...can't remember the last time my connection was less than 100%. (In fairness I only browse outside of biz hours...during those I'm busy with other stuff).

Nothing to complain about here, busy downloading Centos updates at 2MB/s :)

Universal Plug and Play ... allows other devices to discover the router. If you using this solely for an internet connection shouldn't need this. This protocol could well consume resources.

I have to say, I would agree with DJ - suspect the router on your symptoms described .....

But, if you are convinced that its the ADSL speed, and if you say it fixed now, then s'pose theres not much more advise anyone can offer.

I see Dane called you and resolved your issue.

You sent us half credit card details and half banking details. Therefore we could not load the debit order

well I recieved one call from a guy at Openweb to confirm my bank details and he said he would call back and give me login details to use but he never did call back.
Its been an entire day of emails back and forth...and their call centre is now closed. Mailed them now to just cancel the whole thing. Not much better than telkom.

We havent changes streaming priorities for quite some time.

Streaming does indeed get priority if the capacity allows it, however, sometimes streaming can be shaped if the network is really busy

MrBeep, have you guys changed the priority of Twitch on your end?

It will be using the full speed of my connect (440KB) while watching at source quality, but then after a while will not go higher the 100KB, as such killing the stream, even at lower quality settings.

And no amount of resets or reloading helps. It stays like this for a few hours.

Based on your PM, and your error log, you are more than likely experiencing a router issue, however, a Telkom issue cannot be ruled out here

pm send to mr beep

my internet is really slow
taken me about 3min to load this page

but when i reboot my route it fast again for a few min
then it just die again

anyone els have this prob?

Are we being shaped at the moment ?

My P2P were also slow the whole evening but has slowly picked up from avg 30 KB/s @ 6 pm till about avg 70 KB/s currently. 2 MB Gold ( Power )

What is weird is that with speed test results I get 200 KB/s . Is this classic P2P shaping Im experiencing ?

Openweb - you are shaping us ne ! Just now 4 mins ago the taps opened to full speed @ exactly 11PM !

Mr Beep

Just a thought. Can you possibly put a little tab next to your Network status ( Shaping ) to indicate in general if shaping is applied.
I know you sometimes say the network is currently unshaped so it should not be to hard for your techies :). It will just help a lot with the uncertainty is it shaping and wait it out or is it a problem with your connection.

Sorry brain working overtime toooooo muuuuuch coffffeeee

Also experiencing very slow speeds, very frustrating.... Maybe time to move on :-(

Too late. I've already cancelled my Gold Openweb account today  You want to know why? Crappy download speeds  When I tried my friend's Afrihost account last night before making my first myBB post, it was pretty fast. No issues at all. Why is that? Bet you can't answer that without resorting to cheap tactics such as using the classic Blame Telkom card to hide the fact that Openweb is crappy.

If it's so crappy as you suggest, why are people content with the service? Sure, daytime speeds suck, but the after hours un-throttled, unshaped service is great. The couple of times that I've dealt with Support, they've provided nothing but good client service. Before jumping the gun, you should've posted here or contacted support. I've been with 4 different ISPs in the past few years, and OpenWeb has treated me well and will continue to be my ISP of choice.

This has been requested before, but nonetheless, it remains a great suggestion!

There is life after P2P. ;) Uncapped users are too heavily reliant on this protocol. Same goes for news servers.

Gotta be totally honest here pal .... Daytime I can understand, but after hours downloads, is where OW comes into its own.

Have you even TRIED to to troubleshoot the issue with Leon?
IMHO, if you have had a problem, and - as in this case - Mr. Beep has asked for some info to have a crack at fixing it, well first oblige OW. If after doing the obligatories it doesn't work out, then fly off the handle. ;)

Better yet, keep us all informed of your progress on this forum as well have interest in such things - thats why most of us hang around here. A tracert is usually a good start. Could be that other folk in your area have the same issue - and its comforting to know that its a general issue.
It also gives ME an idea of where NOT to live .... :p

The issue you describe - well I had that with my previous ISP, and have the same with OW.
In both cases, a chat with the techies solved it.

It is a good idea.

There are some priorities we need to work on first (which we are already dealing with currently). But it has gone onto the list

It is such a pity that the client would not like to PM me.

It is also strange that he experienced these 'awful' speeds after hours, as we have very little to no shaping most evenings.

Oh well, you win some you lose some.
