Hi Skynews,

On speedtest, it can be yes.

It is one of the most unreliable ways of testing speed.

Try this:

Switch off your router for no less than 20 minutes. Then back on. Then perform a speedtest here:

http://speedtest.mybroadband.co.za

Do you see an improvement? If you do, it is a Telkom fault.

If not, please email [email protected] so that we can dig deeper

Is this normal on a 6M line ? all sites so sluggish ....

London above and local below ?

But ill go reset that modem now ?

Please fire up a download from London, or the States and post that with your results. I'm afraid I have no faith in Speedtest

I am having such inconsistent results with my Openweb Gold 4 mb uncapped account. It is amazing on weekends and weekday nights but has such inconsistent performance during the day for the last two months.

My wife does online adwords from home (not bandwidth intensive at all) and some days, like today, it feels as if dial up would be quicker. I never had this kind of problem with MWeb and the problem also goes away when I use the access prepaid GB.

Could you assist?

Hey guys,

Anyone else getting great speeds with certain sites e.g. YouTube but struggling to simply load others (strangely Google and Imgur are some of the ones I noted in my case).

Never had this problem before, not quite sure what to do here...

Hi prejoh,

I would like to investigate this matter.

Can you please drop me a mail: [email protected] with your ADSL username

Hi Guilty101

Please try setting the following DNS in your router:

Primary DNS: 168.210.2.2
Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4

Please provide feedback

Yeah it has gone a little bad even here on Openweb , ........However I switched to Afrihost and guess what .....I think my grandmother on a bicycle with a memory stick would have been faster .

Have not tried Telkom ...but anyway its almost 17:30 ...lets see how it shapes up

Hi Skynews,

This is not an account fault.

I am currently connected to your account downloading at 614KB/s from a server in USA.

I also did a quick test on our lines in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg with similar results.

Dont worry about it right now as I see Saix have some issues as well ....But Afrihost still way down and in the dumps, so I would hate to be in a Afrihost call centre right now :wtf:

Hey MrBeep

Those settings also seems to have sorted out my problems :)

I was getting fast YouTube but slow downloads and now all is fine :)

Hi MrBeep,

I've signed up for the Gamer's delight special, and while thrilled with the value it offers, I'm curious if I could get better latencies to EU. Dota 2 Specifically. I'm new to Openweb, so not sure what my options are, but how do I get from

That trace was done from an ushaped prepaid account, but I've seen others with the Gamers delight posting speed tests to UK/EU with sub-180ms pings and also understood this special to have unshaped & prioritised gaming bandwidth?

TLDR; I am getting 220-240ms in game on EU servers, and would really love to be sub 200 if it is a possibility? Halp!

Hi Rivin,

Unfortunately, your latencies are determined by quite a few factors. One major factor is your exchange location in relation to our IPC.

Unfortunately, there is not much we can do to improve it, as your latency is considered very good

Thanks for the reply!

I might be off the mark here, but is this line not the IPC?

Code:
 4 9 ms 11 ms 11 ms core2-pkl-t0-7-0-0.ip.isnet.net [168.209.1.163]
the jump from there to

Code:
5 211 ms 211 ms 207 ms 168.209.201.85

Which I imagine is EU somewhere, is really high.

I guess I just wanted to check the difference between me and the other trace is not something solvable somehow, on my end or yours, or a backbone switch or something?

Thanks for the info!

Hi Rivin,

I'm afraid there is not much one can do about the international hop either.

Have you ever experienced sub 180ms?

I opened a Std Uncapped with OW today, and have not even been able to browse the Web, is this because it's weekend?
