Has anyone here used both Vanilla and Gold and can elaborate on what the noticeable differences are?

+1

especially for NNTP, and expecially for during the day.
(not that I would downgrade for a few bucks, lol, I'd just like to know too)

Ha. Afrihost is back up with CNN. I'm too lazy to reset my modem to Openweb to check.

Telkom's response to my issue is that I must understand there are lots of people using the internet in my area and that's why the speeds can be slow

I notice the Gold Uncapped is now on promo... Can somebody provide tests as to the superiority of Gold vs other acc's

I just bit the bullet and signed up for the Gold Uncapped promo. Can't wait for the debit order to activate so I can take the account for a spin :D

I am moving from Afrihost 4MB capped to Openweb (Vanilla) 2MB uncapped.

Any hints on how I get my line changed from 4MB to 2MB? And do I have to get Telkom to take it over again?

Thanks guys! :-)

If you still have your account with Afrihost then you should contact them. If your AH account is already cancelled and closed they should have transferred the line back to Telkom if I am not mistaken, if not then they should do s o asap. Changing the line speed is a very easy process however, but I would advise you keep your line with Telkom going forward.

MrBeep, just out of curiosity, I currently run downloads from news servers from 10pm to 7am on my 10mb gamers uncapped. Would it be a problem if I left it on 24/7 or will that result in me ending up with a shaped to h3ll account?

Don't want to abuse the line, but it is nice to come home and find something new waiting for me :)

Thanks @DrJohnZoidberg - I have contacted AfriMan, will see what he says. And yes, thanks for the tip - will be leaving my friggin line with Telkom in future :D

Hi Charl,

You can download as you see fit. However, the more folks that download during the day, the more the connections will be shaped, as the network is shaped based on how busy the entire network is at any given time.

Ok great, don't mind being shaped thats perfectly understandable. You guys made it clear that it is a shaped account :)

Was more concerned that if I leave the downloads running you guys might dump me into a ubuse group and my line turns into a 512, if that makes sense.

Thanks again, is there any other news server besides the IS one for openweb guys?

Hi

MrBeep

I just signed up for the special 1Mb uncapped gold account. It shows me an invoice of R229 for the month of Jan 2013. Is this correct I thought it said there was no payment if you joined now before the end of the month. I dont have my username and password yet. Let me know and I can PM you my details.

Here's to what I hope is a great relationship with OpenWeb?

Can someone ,please, please answer this question????

I'm on Vanilla, I work from home, I use torrents for downloads but I cap them to 50kBps during the day time hours due to the fact that I am working; and I don't really spend a lot of time on the net after 8PM, neither do I watch my torrents like a hawk but they do tend to go at decent speeds when I do watch them and new series that come out are finished pretty quickly.

Latency is great, speedtests for the most part are full line speed (4MB), I stream spotify all day and watch quite a fair amount of streaming video, been testing out my roku today and streaming was without any issues.

I don't game and prefer my torrent setup to NNTP so I can't really say much on that from a Vanilla perspective. This months usage is @ 100GB. At the moment there is no reason why I would want to change to a higher package due to this one suiting my needs and running as expected, which is why I wonder what the difference really is on the higher packages.

Guess im not one of those who download the internets each month so perhaps that's more the point of the more expensive packages.
