OpenWeb is Bandwidth Sharing

OK, bit of an update on the situtation. We where running off prepaid (as far as I can tell, must still confirm with the boss man) so we not using OpenWeb anymore and we asked for a refund...

I'd like to know though, who and where can we report this kind of stuff to? Its obvious that OpenWeb are doing something dodgy and its not right. Seems like they not willing to buy bandwidth from SAIX and IS and skimping on the users - by sharing the accounts....
Seems like its happening to a lot of us, what can we do about it?

You guys are not imagining things, Openweb had been sharing my account with someone else since I started my account in July last year. Even after my password was changed my account was still being shared by the same user. Only after stumbling across a recent thread did I investigate and find this out though, as I was just using Netmeter to monitor my usage and had never visited the IS usage stats before. Mr. Beep blamed it on bandwidth theft but that is B.S. because there is no way someone would instantly guess my new password that was given to me. It is sorted out now after I pointed out that there was something fishy going on and was given another new password. I will be keeping my eye on things, but I find it disheartening because my service from Openweb has been great besides this.

Can't someone e-mail MrBean* lol and get him to come clear some stuff up here.

Does he not care what OW are really getting scorched here with bad publicity!

Not to be funny gdiza but I'm pretty sure I know what is going on here. When I started asking Mr. Beep questions in my emails he avoided answering my questions. The reason I picked up this problem is because I was wondering why I was being throttled so soon and why my downloads were so slow. Then I stumbled across the earlier thread and went to go check on my IS stats. I have nothing against Mr.Beep but I would rather him admit he was sharing accounts than fabricate a story.

It does seem a bit worrying that Mr.Beep is not responding and that a few peeps are moaning about the same thing.

Because of no response, it has to lead one to believe there is an insider manipulating accounts.

Disprove ^ the sentiment Mr.Beep.

Well then, since more and more people are finding out this exact same problem as I've had, who do we report to? SAIX, IS?
They not conducting business properly like this, which is wrong

I did report the matter earlier this month to IS. Spoke to one of the product managers on the phone and he assured me that Openweb is not allowed to resell the uncapped express accounts (although there is 2 concurrent connections provided with the accounts for when your telkom port is locked). I also sent him the proof I had that they are double selling the accounts. I have not heard anything from IS or John (the bloke I spoke to at IS).

Well I don't think you will get much joy from IS, why would they care? Especially some dude on the end of the phone. We are the few that are lucky enough or savvy enough to find out, imagine all the others that have no idea.

Hey Friends

Sorry about the delayed response. I have been hectically busy working on creating a new reseller's portal, and of course month end :)

OpenWeb does not, will not, and have never thought of sharing bandwidth and / or ADSL accounts.

It is unethical, and will directly go against the contract /s we have signed with our bandwidth providers (SAIX and Internet Solutions).

For any specific account queries, and more information as to why there might be extra sessions on your account, please email [email protected] I will be more than happy to help.

Also, we are almost finished with the redevelopment of our Password Changing facility via the Control Panel. Once this is done, many of our accounts will have the feature of instant password changes by the client, without going through our support channel. I believe this feature will solve many of the concerns expressed on this thread.

Thank you for your loyal support, and have a great day!

By the way, it's almost pay day!! (Something to look forward to!)

Kind regards
MrBEEP

So it seems like all we can do is hate OpenWeb, sit back and watch them run a crooked business?

I know what you guys mean though, cant phone IS or SAIX about it, what do they care....especially the call centre person!
Its still happening on our side. We checked the usage from the account they gave us and yesterdays usage was 1.2GB. Yet we didnt use the account....

Hi silv3rback

Please mail me your username so that I can take a look for you.

Kind regards

Far enough, BUT - why would so many of the OpenWeb users say the same thing, and report the same problem on here.... Its hardly a coincedance that we are all having the same problem

With regards to concurrent connections, how do we check this? I have SASA ADSL Stats Analyser at home, but it doesnt seem to work with the OpenWeb account. I forget which one we have now, but its running of the SAIX backbone

Hey silv3rback

Once I have the usernames, I can take a look and see what is going on.

Some of our accounts do not work via the SASA. Each account type has its own usage stats area, reporting as much information as available.

Please remember, bandwidth theft is a problem in South Africa due to the caps Telkom chose to implement on accounts.

I suggest clients whom have had bandwidth stolen, open a case at the SAPS, and forward us the case number. We will in turn forward it on the the relevant provider, who will be obliged to perform an investigation.

Kind regards
MrBEEP

I find it highly unlikely that I was a victim of data theft. If I look at my IS stats from the day that I joined there was someone else sharing my line. That would mean I joined him, and I'm not a data thief. When my internet stopped working I contacted you Mr.Beep and you said Telkom had blocked my DSLAM but you would change my password as a precaution to stop this from happening again. Now when I go look back to the day that I could not connect on the IS stats I see the other user was connected whilst I was disconnected, and stayed connected even after I had my password changed. My reasoning tells me that he requested a new password for some reason which would then not allow me to connect. When I got the same password as him I could reconnect. It makes sense to me that I was given his new password...

Hi Spark

I think the best solution will be to port lock your account so that no other ADSL user can access your account except your ADSL circuit number.

When we reset a password, the second session will not automatically disconnect. We have only recently been given the ability to disconnect sessions. It used to take up to 48 hours for sessions to disappear, which wasn't good, because your bandwidth would still be used by the second party.

Kind regards
MrBEEP
