Openweb uncapped ADSL feedback

I am on the std uncapped 1mb line and when I download now at 10:30pm I am getting approx 5kb/s for nntp/1 click file hoster etc. Is this normal because my old mweb account was hitting close to 100kb/s at this time

What is happening here

My browsing is fine, just downloading. Will test out streaming now as well

You could just edit your post instead of re-posting it
The @whatever shows the backbone you're on, openweb just resells bandwidth and does not have their own network as far as I know...

The VB problem seems to have struck me today as well. Could not game on it at all kept getting latencies of 5k - 10k on it. Will stick with it for now as I won't be using it much this weekend.

@Reaper84....why not upgrade to 1MB Gold Uncapped much better speed I'm using it without any issues.

+1.

Got 1Mb VB Gold and I rarely have to buffer any video at all. Unless it's 720p of course :p

Uncapped gold is more than double the price I am paying

It looks like the main difference is contention ratios so this doesnt explain alright speedtest results and browsing but the fact that I cannot download anything

Is anyone else on bcsnet?

On what account are you? Lite? Std?

I am on uncapped std. That is what I cannot undertsand, it feels like I am on their openbrowse account or something. Browsing is fine, speedtest is pretty consistent but cannot download at all

I have emailed Koema so will see what he says :erm:

Just to say... 6 months of epic internet goodness!

Been with OW (Gold) for just shy of 18 months now. Amazing service.

Hi,

Can we have some feedback on performance from the guys using OW 4MB DSL Heaven accounts?

Thx

Almost on par with VB. Sometimes my NNTP goes at 250KB/s but mostly at 350KB/s. Youtube streams fine, browsing perfect, sometimes I have latency issue while gaming. Can't comment on torrents.

For me, browsing while downloading kills the speed.

Any VB users, have the issues been fixed?

Also on the DSLHeaven accounts (WebAfrica IP). 1Mb though.

Perfect for me, except local non-WebAfrica networks where I get 60ms, but from Pta-WA servers (1500km) I get 37ms.

International latency for League of Legends is outstanding..... 203ms ingame.

I'm also on a DSLHeaven account (Webafrica IP - although I think all DSLHeaven accounts have Webafrica IPs), 4Mb Account.

Pros:

Virtually perfect in any scenario for me, in some cases even better than VB.

1) Can stream Youtube HD videos without any problems (could do this on VB as well but not 24/7).

2) NNTP runs full speed 24/7 (460-490Kb/s), SSL

3) Steam runs very good as well, although I found the download speed to be slightly inconsistent but managed to download Aliens vs Predator (the game) via Steam yesterday without any hiccups (was a 14.7GB download)

4) Speedtest.net results are consistent every single time, for example: http://www.speedtest.net/result/1669249259.png

5) International gaming latencies were sub 200 for me last night playing AvP on international UK servers.

6) Torrents also run full line speed with this account :)

Cons:

1) Like Froot mentioned, local latency for me is a little bit higher than it was with VB, which is a little bit disappointing, but it's nothing major, can live with it.

2) HTTP downloads (especially Megaupload) is not as fast as it is on VB for me personally, but I suppose after 12am the speeds should pick up, but on average they're about 200-300 kb/s on most filesharing sites. Other HTTP downloads fly again full line speed, so there is some shaping on filesharing sites, but it's acceptable.

As you can see, my pros out weigh the cons by a considerable margin at this stage, but I'm highly impressed with this account. Anyone still on VB might want to test drive a DSLHeaven account as it really is heavenly (pun intended) to say the least :D

Since DSLHeaven from Openweb, Gold uncapped has increased its value yet again!

Kudos to Openweb for offering us the best uncapped experience in SA!

Thanks for all the great feedback...looks like I'll be trying out DSL Heaven acc in January since no one offer pro-rata. What's the price difference OW Vs. Web Africa for these?

Thanks
Guz

Openweb offers Gold uncapped which works really well!

I must say, DSL Heaven is running really great. Youtube and video streaming is first class. Downloads are coming down full speed and latency is great. Have to say it but so far it's running better than VB. :)
