Preparing to flash my Desire HD - some sources download slow - but getting around 350KB :D

just a heads up flashed my galaxy ace with 2,3,4 from samfirmware, it got flashed to some Russia language, was a pain to navigate the menu to change to English :P

some sites is a bit scaly :P

Still very happy on VB Gold.It really does the business if you primarily use NNTP.I often get greater than 4mb speeds. My only criticism is that streaming,HTTP downloads are mostly sucky.

Right, so I figured out why my connection was so awesome the other night: I dialed into a TI account via PPPoE and later disconnected. Although Windows said it wasn't connected anymore, it actually was, and it was downloading from that, so there goes all of that bandwidth for the rest of the month :p

At midnight, the connection started moving very nicely on NNTP but it's going at 5KB/s again now, so it seems that they don't count weekends as off-peak. A real pitty, since it means I get 180 hours of actual downloading per month, which effectively caps this account at 250GB/month for downloading. Not sure how I feel about that, considering the added expense of having to pay for a newshost. Will try and get a VB account and if that doesn't work, I guess I'll bite the bullet and move over the MWeb, which I know isn't fantastic, but it allows for a good amount of downloading and you can actually stream HD and whatnot during the day.

Stream hd during the day? On mweb i could not even stream youtube sd video's at 2 in the morning.

With mweb i struggled to get 250gb without breaking their rules but by all means go with mweb :D. At least with openweb you do not need to worry about a letter of abuse arriving in your mail box.

That's not what a friend of mine is experiencing at all, especially after their alleged recent updates. I don't WANT to switch to them, but if they provide me with an account that isn't actually an after-hours only account at a premium price, then they offer me what I actually want. This account I'm currently on is 90% there. If I can get that remaining 10% from VB, then great, otherwise I'll borrow a MWeb account and give that a bash for a day or two and see what happens.
I'm not writing off Openweb. The service from Keoma and the support staff is fantastic. I'm simply looking for an account that's right for me. Also, I don't believe this shaping is thanks to OW. I actually suspect that the providers enforce these limitations since deep packet scanning would be required to figure out what sort of traffic I'm doing and shape it, which I dont think OW has the ability to do in their arrangement.

I just switched to Afrihost IS account in the hopes of getting the one 300MB file faster (was only doing 20KB/s on VB) - its even slower on the IS account... I think IS is seriously buggered atm.

I actually think Openweb should do something about it - I'm assuming they pay more for the IS Gold accounts, and if they're performing like standard IS accounts, whats the point?

Seems VB is still the way to go :) I got most of my 1.5GB files for the reflash in under an hour.

Yeah, I just took a trial VB account for a quick spin. I have a 8Mb line and it performs as such, so any limitations is at ISP-side. The VB account hit 1.5mbps on speedtest.net. News readers hit 200-odd KB/s. HTTP hits just over 100KB/s. Guess I'm sticking to my current account!

Yeah I would love to know how much control OW actually have over the accounts and throttling/shaping them!! I would imagine pretty little to known...

Is there actually an issue with IS? As this speed is insane for afterhours uncapped.

Hi Linoman,

The networks are running well below capacity today, thus everything is mostly full steam ahead. The latency in itself shows that there is a major problem somewhere on your link.

Please contact Telkom on 0800375375 and have them test the line and router.

If the problem persist, please email me: [email protected]

Kind regards
MrBEEP

After a adsl router reboot on my 2.9mb line

How are services like Fileserv and such treating you guys? Do they allow for download managers? Someone wouldn't happen to have a spare account I can give a test run with? Which services are the ones to go for?

Thanks MrBEEP

Currently on the phone to Telkom and will now be waiting for a flippen technician. Sigh

I know the fustration you guys are experiencing, i contacted Keoma early parts of the morning and around 8am he was able to do a port reset for me on the TK line, when i checked my downloads at 1pm it was running at 2MB. Did a reboot as i was asleep since the email came through and from that time till now it is still running at full speed. :)

I think IS shaping is very aggressive but also at times feel like a lotto except we dont have a million odds against us ....yet i would love to see OW grow .

I think for now we have to communicate with Keoma and just be as patient as we can be and that isnt to say he will be able to sort everyone out without some kind of intervention from telkom but it is certainly a way to rule out where the issue is arrising from.

Lino and Mesugga , i really hope you guys get sorted. And anyone else i missed mentioning :p

I think bfbc2 is kinda busted because it was not made for the pc so perhaps the makers expected bad pings so it couldn't handle awesome pings.

Bf3 was made for the pc so i am sure the bfbc2 shyte will be gone, at least i hope or bf 3 will just collect dust. I also bf 3 is as good as bf 2 was, i could play the same maps over and over and not get bored with bfbc2 i get bored so fast.

I cannot wait to play the bf 2 maps on bf 3 :D

bfbc 2 is boring because you have to use a 3rd party voip to talk to each other, and if you are on a 384 line you have to use chat to talk - BORING

Had a hiccup with SABNZBD crashing on a 40GB file "sigh" but after 5pm i checked and full speed since.

Have you guys come right on the VB Backbone, onething have noticed is IS is performing well when VB is down only for a short time. But you have to ask yourself, VB Full speed more hours than IS guaranteed after hours :p.

For now sticking with IS, should be close to 60GBs by tomorrow morning which is fine for now :).

Edit: karma b1tch slapped me but i didn't do anything wrong, i deleted the 40GB file.....then i was like "meh" added back to queue ...Uncapped +1 b1tch slapping karma -1 :D

Tip: if using SAB, don't delete orphaned jobs....>.<

All full speed ahead here, hopes it all goes well today...

Sigh, I'm not a happy camper this morning: http://www.speedtest.net/result/1477108669.png :(

At least I can stream the rugby, but my download rate has declined somewhat for NNTP, running at 250-300kb/s.

EDIT: I can't stream nothing on Youtube without buffering either.

Wow that's terrible for an unshaped account. Oh wait. You're paying for a shaped account.
