Openweb Uncapped Feedback

@nihilist which other isp gives you that amount of info for uncapped?

Haven't really looked into other ISPs, but it's certainly no reason for them not to give some basic information on what to expect for a product costing R700 a month.

Most ISP's if not all are shaping P2P and torrent protocols, I know that they have/are trying to shape certain HTTP workarounds.

But as I've only been with OW 4meg Gold for the last few days, only issues i've had has been seacom and intl outages.
I do use 3rd party packages to download with via http and ftp, and they fly at most times of the day at 400-450KB/s.

Even WoW has low latency and I listen to online radio at the same time.

As far as service I'm 100% happy that I moved away from Afrihost and Mweb direct and totally satisfied with the uncapped service and support MrBeep and Openweb provide.

Thanks Openweb.:):)

My line is slower than 384k during office hours and is utterly useless on sites like Youtube until about 6pm, I'm often home during the day.

I have no issues with shaping P2P protocols, but throttling during the day to 10% of my line speed and shaping HTTP is just not on.

O_O

edit: Can you run some tests during office hours please?

Well i've just cancelled with mweb and will be going with Open web come end of july.

Well the openweb gold runs at 4mbps during the day if you browsing, watching youtube & getting mail etc. Torrents and P2P (Though this is based from what I've read on these forums) are throttled during the day and only seem to run faster after 12 at night. My own experience from using Rapidshare and Hotfile is that these run at between 20 and 40kbps during the day and peak to just over 200kbps after 12 at night. Come 7AM the speed drops again.

Overall, no disrespect intended at Openweb, I think places like Mweb and IS thought that by offering cheap uncapped accounts and shaping P2P and torrents etc would work out well for them, not realising that there are many ways to download from the web, RS, MU and HF being some of them! Now they have had to start placing restrictions on all these types of downloads to make sure that they are able to provide a stable service across the board. Bit unfair for the consumer because as far as I'm concerned HF, RS & MU are all http based and shouldn't be throttled at all, or rather give us full speed after 10 in the evenings for these "Service types" and limit it during office hours! Though at this stage im sure i'm more likely to get a 1 on 1 lap dance from Angelina Jolie at this point than that happening :)

@nihilist Define office hours cause that was todays :) I can run some from Monday onwards like every 2hrs or so.

From 7am to about 5-6pm my line is useless. Please do, I'll probably get better info from you than OW itself.

Sure thing will do some random stuff come next week, anything in particular.

Speedtest and just some HTTP downloads, - I'm nto griping about p2p, it's just daytime surfing and http downloads of updates and dev stuff is useless.

Thanks bud, tho don't stress for the w/e, more itnerested in weekday 8am-5pm times, as weekends are usually decent.

Hi nihilist,

this is my third invitation for you to PM me with your ADSL username so that I can assist. If you do not contact me, i'm afraid I cannot help you.

Kind regards
MrBEEP

I have had less problem with my ADSL account after I moved from IS based to Mweb (both via Openweb).

With IS account, business hour throttling is ridiculous, Mweb can't comment as I haven't tried it during the day.

IS account will require multiple tries for authentication before it connects, no problem with Mweb.

HTTP download speeds are very good with Mweb (always full speed after hours), I never got close to full speed on my IS account in the 2 months I used it.

I don't use newsgroup, I torrent via seedbox. And my experience so far with Mweb is nothing but positive.

Openweb Gold - Slow, SLow, Slow

Hi Keoma

Last month the downloads were fine but since the new "Gold" accounts for June my downloads are very slow and erratic.
